Samuel Schatz Obituary

Samuel Schatz Found peace on June 14, 2010 after a two year battle with leukemia. Marcia, his beloved wife of 20 years, was by his side. Sam fought his battle with amazing courage, dignity and humor. Born August 14, 1944 in the Bronx, he later moved to Claremont, NH upon the death of his mother. He spent the rest of his childhood with his loving grandmother, Bubb, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. After graduating from Stevens High School, Sam attended the University of Hartford. His first job sent him on assignment to LA. He loved CA and eventually settled in Marin County where he established his own dental supply business in 1978. Sam was dedicated to his work and became highly regarded in the industry. He was a gentle, sweet loving man who will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and employees. Sam was passionate about life. He always enjoyed a rousing discussion about politics, economics, and world affairs. He loved to ski, golf, sail, travel, and enjoy fine dining. The family is deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff at The Stanford Cancer Center for the compassionate care they provided. A private celebration of Sam's life will be held on Sunday, June 27. Donations in Sam's name may be made to www.caringbridge.org or The Jewish Chaplaincy at Stanford University Medical Center, 300 Pasteur Dr., Ste. HG004, Stanford, CA 94305.

I am so sorry to hear of Sam's passing. He truly was a kind and gentle spirit at all times and I know he must have exhibited these qualities even during his most difficult moments.
I will always treasure our early golf days together when all of the ladies were first learning the game. Marsha- my deepest sympathy and warm thoughts go out to you and I will reach out to spend time with you soon. Love, Betsy

It remains my honor and privilege to have accompanies Sam as his chaplain at Stanford Hospital. I remain inspired by his humor and courage in the face of illness and the deep and abiding friendship and love that he shared with his wife Marcia. Sam, may your memory continue to bless us all.

I knew Sam from our golfing days in "GOATS". He was such a gentle, amiable guy. My thoughts are with Marcia.

To my dear cousin, Marcia, I am so very sorry for your loss. I regret that I never got to meet Sam, but I am glad he was your companion for over 20 years. I know our family will help you through this difficult time. Please know that you are in my thoughts and I am here for you if you need me.

We've known Sam for 25 years. When he was a bachelor he was a frequent visitor and a drop-in. We were that close that he'd knock on our door and with upraised eyebrows, would ask, "what's for dinner?" Our answer always was "come on in, whatever we have we'll share." And we did. He was always welcome at our table. We attended Sam's wedding at Harbor Point. We were so close I even made a short speech. He was a warm human being. He was always articulate, courteous and soft spoken. I don't recall him ever being angry. He didn't deserve the suffering visited upon him. He will be missed.

I will surely miss seeing Sam in the neighborhood. He always had a kind word for everyone. We never seemed to get together on the golf course although we both talked a good game. I surely will miss his smile and his wave every time we passed one another. My deepest sympathy to you Marsha. Bev & I will always be here for your every need.
