Santos Cuellar Obituary

Santos 1934-2010 Beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, J. Santos Cuellar, left us on November 4th, 2010. Santos was born on November 13, 1934 in Guadalajara, Mexico. As a young man Santos joined the Mexican Navy and then left Mexico for the United States in search of a better life. Once in the U.S. Santos served in the U.S. Army National Guard and married his first wife who persuaded him to enter Cosmetology School. Her advice was sound and after graduating, Santos pursued a career as a hairstylist. His competitive spirit, immense talent, magnetic personality and outstanding work ethic made him one of San Francisco's most renowned and successful hairdressers. Santos' charisma, beautiful, precise haircuts and gift of making his clients feel special, endeared him to a very large number of clients, many of whom have remained loyal for decades. Santos owned two salons; "Santos the Haircutter" on Stockton St. in Union Square and "Santos" in Embarcadero #1. During the last years of his career he worked at salons on Union, Sutter and Market St. Santos enjoyed music, reading, golf, world travel, scotch, riding his Harley, the latest "anything" in technology, poker and "brief" visits with his family. Santos was a proud, special and complicated man. His dry sense of humor, love of shocking people and endless generosity are only some of his special traits that will be remembered. Santos' greatest joys were his children (most of the time), his grandchildren (always). Santos is survived by his four children Rick, Tony, Nicole and Lisa; his grandchildren, Cameron, Nicole, Livia, Michael and Caden; his two sisters, his half-sister and too many nieces and nephews to name. Santos would want his last words to be... "Finito La Musica"

I still cry about our loss of Santos. He was one special and unique gentleman. We shared many adventures together. My family bought us plates to break together when we got upset with one another! And I so love you Nicole, Lisa and your Brother. Nicole it was always FUN living in the city and when you'd run up to me and said "MOM!" heads turned.

Remembering Santos with affection and admiration. He was a true artist, and I will always miss his level of expertise when he sat me in the chair and got out his hair cutting scissors. But he was also kind and a lot of fun. I will always have a special place in my heart for him. Caryl Bonds

Me and my family will ALWAYS miss Santos. My partner who so spoiled me and helped me with my wild child self. We do have a very real legacy. I will always love you my Santos. I just changed as a Sailor. And I had to sail on.....

Dear Santos,
My first haircut in 1975 made me your loyal customer. Every five weeks for 35 years we visited about life. First came the friendship, then the trip to Puerto Vallarta, the trip to Murphys, the caring, the sharing, the laughter, and finally growing old together. Tony and I miss your gentleness and friendship. Rest in peace.
Love,
Joanie O'Brien and Tony Evans

This totally stinks. Santos was a great guy and the best hairdresser in town. Me and my entire family will miss him. He'll be missed by many many people. A sad day.

I am utterly saddened about this. Though not surprised. I am 53 and a whole lot of spare change now. And Santos and I spent many years together. I was 21 at the time. He taught me much about life. I will see you in heaven my sweet-heart and we will drink Tequila and party...and play dice and WIN as we often did. XOX

I remember Santos from the Mission Bay Golf Center. What a great guy. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.
