Shirley GRAY Obituary

Shirley Gray has spent the past week catching up with the love of her life and high school sweetheart, her husband Duncan, and her beloved son Ric.

Shirley joined them the afternoon of March 21/2012.

A devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, Shirley always kept a watchful eye on her family. That same tender eye made her a masterful painter, potter, quilter, chef and baker. She excelled at any interest she chose to undertake. That keen eye also meant she was a shrewd Duplicate Bridge player.

Family and community benefited from her generous spirit. She was a long standing member of Nanaimo's Art 10 group, and she had also been a member of both Altrusa and Probus. It gave her great pleasure to know she was making a difference.

She is sadly missed by son Rob and Jackie, daughter Carolyn, grandson Andrew, Molly and Kramer, and all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Shirley's life will take place Tuesday April 3 at 1 pm at Nanaimo Trinity United Church, 6234 Spartan Road, Nanaimo.

In lieu of flowers please make an investment to the community organization of your choice in Shirley's name.

Shirley valued all of her friendships and sends her love.

It is almost a year, hard to believe. Shirley's home, up the street from mine,
looks very lonely. God Bless her.

Shirley was a talented, funny and caring friend. Not only did we enjoy Altrusa activities, we also spent time together at Hospice, sharing memories of loved ones. Shirley was honest and open and you always knew what she was thinking because she told you.She is missed for so many reasons. We hold you in our hearts, Shirley.

Knowing Shirley was a real inspiration. She was so talented with her hands and so artistic in everything she did....striking, softly evocative paintings. She had a great sense of humour which came through in her beautifully handmade dolls. Always kind, thoughtful, generous and hard working, Shirley was a model Altrusan and we were fortunate to have her as a member of our Nanaimo organization.

I send you my blessings. I was fortunate enough to receive one of Shirley's paintings from an Altrusa fund raiser and will forever treasure it.
Sincerely, Vicki Calder (Fellow Altrusian)

Shirley was such a vibrant member of the Altrusa Club. She made us howl with laughter at the Christmas Party with her magic trick of placing a paper napkin over her face. When we needed a professional-looking banner, Shirley produced one in record time. We shall miss your zest for life, my Dear. God bless.
