Sloan Kristy was born August 11, 1963 at Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco to Beth and Fred Kristy (deceased). She was a half sister to Vicki Hennessy and Linda Giguere and aunt to Erin Hennessy, Patrick Hennessy and Nicole Giguere. Born with serious birth defects, she was not expected to live beyond the age of three years. She spent much of the first few years of her life at the former Shriner's Hospital in San Francisco undergoing several surgeries that ultimately improved her quality of life. She was a friendly, sweet little girl who had an easy smile and infectious giggle. As she grew up, she persevered to live her life as independently as possible for many years in Marin County. For the last 12 years of her life, diminishing health conditions, required full time residence at Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco. Her days were brightened by visits to the farm, art classes and Bingo. She received excellent care and was occasionally able to get out and about on her own using her electric wheelchair. One of her favorite destinations was the Stonestown Mall.
Sloan had a deeply spiritual connection with God, studied the Bible daily and went to church whenever she was able. She did not have much money, but contributed to many charities, including St. Jude's Hospital for Children, the ASPCA, and other animal and child focused agencies.
She loved cats, the Peanuts characters (especially Snoopy), Garfield, old school TV sitcoms (Saved by the Bell), cooking shows, and, win or lose, the San Francisco Giants. In her last few months of life, while in the Intensive Care Unit at UC San Francisco Hospital, the Giants games were the only program she wanted to watch.
We will remember Sloan with love as a good natured, thoughtful, person who never had a bad word for anyone, and who made the best of whatever came her way.
The family of Sloan would like to thank the dedicated doctors, nurses, social workers, certified nursing assistants and all the other support staff members at Laguna Honda Hospital who assisted Sloan in her time there and who work every day to provide dignified, essential services to the people in their care.
A private family memorial will be held in her honor.
