Socorro Cuevas passed away in the early hours of Friday, June 16, 2023 at the age of 98. The beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Cuevas, Socorro was preceded in death by daughter Sylvia Hidalgo, and stepson Reynault Cuevas. She is survived by her daughter Christine, 8 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Born in Mazatlan, Mexico, the 15 th of 18 children, Socorro met Bill through his cousin Consuelo. They were married at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Mazatlan and began their long and happy married life together in San Francisco. She began working in the stock transfer department at Bank of America and retired from Dean Witter in 1986.
Upon retirement, Socorro and Bill volunteered for many years at the Doelger Westlake Senior Center. She was a long time member of the Catholic Daughters of America having held various offices. She and Bill enjoyed traveling and made many trips to Mexico to visit family. Socorro continued to travel after Bill passed away, especially on cruises. She was a loving daughter who supported her mother, Soledad, until her passing at the age of 91.
Socorro enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Dancing with the Stars, Father Brown, Midsomer Murders and Dancing with the Stars. She loved to read romance novels and do crossword puzzles. She participated in St. Vincent de Paul activities and helped out with choir fundraisers at St. Mary's Cathedral . Socorro was a devout Catholic, a strong and giving woman, loving mother and grandmother, adored and loved by all who knew her.
Friends may visit Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, Daly City, with the rosary service to be held at 6pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday morning at 10am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Daly City, followed by internment at Holy Cross, Colma.
