Stephen Hord Obituary

Stephen Young Hord

October 29, 1927 - May 9, 2015

Steve died peacefully in San Francisco on May 9, 2015 at the age of 87. He was born in Chicago, Il. on October 29 1927, to parents Stephen Young Hord and Catharine Norcross Hord. The oldest of three siblings, he grew up in nearby Lake Forest, IL. Steve graduated from the Fountain Valley School and Colorado College. He moved to San Francisco in the 1960's where he lived on Telegraph Hill for 50 plus years.

Steve worked in the investment business and became an investment counselor. He retired in 1992.

Steve was blessed with a wry sense of humor and a keen appreciation for the natural world. He was an avid tennis player, fisherman, and skier. He belonged to the California Tennis Club for over 50 years where he loved to socialize over lunch. His apartment beneath Coit Tower had a sweeping view of the bay, and in his later years, he loved hosting his five great nephews there to watch the Blue Angels when they were in town.

He is survived by his son, Peter Heckler, his sister, Brent Hord Malarkey, and his nephews and nieces Stephen and Aubrey Hord and Thomas, Tucker and Sarah Malarkey.
