Steve Gregoire Obituary

Steven Leon Gregoire

January 16, 1947 – May 31, 2017

Steven "Steve" Leon Gregoire, longtime resident of San Carlos, passed away at his home after a long battle against cancer. Steve always said he lived a charmed life and he left an impression on everyone he met.

Steve, son of late Leon and Elise K. Gregoire, was born in San Francisco, California. He graduated from Balboa High School and attended college at Brigham Young University. While in college, Steve was on the golf team, a ski instructor and he later opened a paint store in Logan. He moved back to the Bay Area, where he worked at Gregoire's Flowers. He started his own business called "The Flower Man", selling and delivering flowers.

Steve married the love of his life, Andy, in 1981. Together, they created a plant business called American Interior Plant Service. He was a successful businessman and had an extensive knowledge of plants. Steve and Andy sold the business in 2014 and enjoyed retirement and travel.

Steve's passion was golf. He was a member of the Olympic Club in San Francisco since he was a young boy. Well-schooled in the fundamentals of golf and a natural, he started out in a "diaper flight", was a junior member of the Olympic Club, was team captain of the golf team, and won multiple championships. Steve's father, Leon, was a key influence and helped contribute to the golf program. Steve continued to compete in many tournaments after high school and college. He also played more than fifty of the top one hundred ranked golf courses throughout the world.

An avid debater of politics, Steve loved discussing it anytime he could find a listening ear. He also loved professional Bay Area sports teams and took all his family members to San Francisco Giants games, always watched the Warriors, and enjoyed the 49ers. He was a keen hunter, and brought the family together with his famous duck lunches.

Steve is survived by his wife, Andrea Gregoire; son John Mack and wife Shelly; son Brett Mack and wife Kristin; daughter Sheryl Sherry and husband Chris; son Nicholas Gregoire and wife Malene; grandchildren Krystal, Jessica, Frankie, Cami, Anna, Jenna, Christopher, Andrea, Jason, Anders and Marie; and many, beloved friends and family. "Poppy" was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's memory may be made to the CHP 11-99 Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 with a reception to follow. The location is Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1040 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA 94002.

Dear Poppy,
We may not have been blood related, but I am and will always be proud to say that you were my grandpa! You were the best to share Oreos and milk with, have duck dinners together, to yell at the Warrior players to do better, and much much more. I loved you very much, but I know that you are in Heaven, looking down at all of us, your friends and your family. God Bless You.
Love,
..

Dear Andy, John and family, Brett and family and Sheryl and family.
Roger and I want to tell you how special today was. So many of Steve’s family and friends to see him off.
It was a beautiful ceremony and we are so glad that you thought to include us in the notification of his passing.
We know only too well how much the love and support of family and friends old and new means at a difficult time like this.
Steve was a very special person and how lucky was he that he met you and enjoyed the ready made family you were blessed with.
Being grandparents we know the joy that our children and grand children bring us.
Since our first is adopted we fully well know that love and family are not only for those who share the same blood.
You had many good years together, rich with family, friends, travel and hobbies that you loved and shared. You are blessed.
We will continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers in the coming days.
It was so good to get to see John, Brett and Sheryl and their families today. You have been a part of our lives for over 40 years!
Can you imagine that?
We send our love.

Andy and Family,
Life happens too fast, but the passing of our love ones is just another step of the cycle none of us understand. We must make room for the new life's, as hard as it is. I know Steven and you enjoyed a beautiful life together, what a blessing for you both. We will all miss Steve, and pray he's resting with the angels.

Andy,

We have many fond memories of Steve from our younger years. But another one really stands out and that was our time we spent with the two of you having a wonderful day together in New Zealand in 2015. This was also followed by your invitation to a famous duck dinner at your home.

God bless,
