Steven Forsythe Obituary

Steven J. Forsythe
Steven J. Forsythe, 67, of Las Vegas passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 20 following a hard fought, two-year battle against cancer. Born in Bremerton, WA, Steve spent his youth in Vallejo then Oakland, CA where he graduated from St. Elizabeth High School before earning his Journalism degree at San Jose State.
Drawn to his love of sports and writing, Steve worked for the Oakland Raiders, the Oakland Stompers professional soccer team, then Sears Point Raceway. His writing skills and knowledge of racing led him to Las Vegas in 1980, where he settled into his role as the Director of Public Communications for Caesars Palace during its Grand Prix racing heyday.
Steve left the gaming industry and became CEO of his own advertising, public affairs and political consulting business in 1985, working for many gaming giants and public entities, and on local, state and national political campaigns.
While Las Vegas became his forever home, a piece of his heart was always in The Bay and with his beloved Giants.
His heart belonged to his children and grandchildren, however, who were constantly first and foremost in his mind. First as Dad, then as PopPop, Steve nurtured, coached, celebrated and loved six children and ten grandchildren who will forever miss his hugs, playtime, humor and wisdom.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother Bettie and his father Jim Forsythe. He is survived by his wife Shauna, stepson Chad Wood (Dawn), son Joseph (Christine), daughter Amanda Rosenberg (Jason), son Christopher, son Anthony (Tricia) and son Brett. The sparkle in his eye was for grandchildren Jackson, Grayson, Gavin, Marcus, Beatrix, Cooper, Alexander, Jameson, Nicholas and Margot. His former wife Connie Elliano and her husband Jason, as well as Crystal and Alex King, share in the family legacy.
Interment will be private however Steve's memory can live on through donations to these organizations which were very close to his heart, having served for years on two of these Boards: Dominican Sisters Vision of Hope (visionofhope.org), the Las Vegas Public Education Foundation (thepef.org) and the V Foundation (v.org).

Can't believe it has been two years already. We did see Steve's final resting place at St. Joseph's when we buried our brother, Bernard Damele not too far from Steve and Betty. Miss you cousin.

We have good memories of Steve from when he was just a child. He and Betty lived upstairs from us on 38th Ave. in Oakland. He accomplished so much and was a wonderful man. He raised a great family and was loved by many. I am sorry we did not see each other often after his relocation to Las Vegas. Gone too soon and may he rest in peace.
