Steven Miller Obituary
February 13, 1942 - April 21, 2022
We lost our beloved husband, father, and brother on April 21st, after a 10-year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Steve was a gentle, compassionate, and thoughtful man with broad interests and a dry sense of humor. He was a devoted husband and father who was always available when needed.
Born in New York City to Martin and Alice (Glantz) Miller, he grew up spending winters in the Bronx and summers in Long Beach, NY. While still in high school at DeWitt Clinton, Steve began taking classes at Columbia University and upon high school graduation was admitted into the Chemical Engineering program at Columbia. During his time there, he was a founding member of the Archimedes Society, a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society and elected president of his sophomore class. After graduating from Columbia in 1963, Steve moved to Berkeley to enroll in the MS/ PhD program in Chemical Engineering at Cal. While there, he discovered the splendor of the Sierras and the pleasures of traveling by motorcycle.
After completing his degree in 1972, Steve embarked upon a long career as a process engineer which provided him with many opportunities to utilize his talents for devising creative solutions to problems in a variety of industries, including refineries and pharmaceuticals.
Steve and Danessa married in 1974 and were eventually blessed with two sons. As a family they especially enjoyed many outdoor adventures.
Steve was a member of the Golden Gate Park Tai Chi class at Spreckels Lake for many years and was a long-term member of the Economic Round Table of San Francisco, serving as its president for 5 years.
Steve is survived by his wife, Danessa, two sons Aaron (Jennifer Johnson) and David (Lisa Anderson), granddaughter Nova Miller, brother Kenneth Miller (Susan Miller) nieces Erica Miller and Alice Freda, nephew Ben Freda, and cousins Barbara Brenner (Jim) and Richard and Elaine Glantz.
A memorial is being planned for Sunday, May 29.
