Susan Cochran Obituary

Susan Cochran
11/11/1940 - 07/09/2025
Susan Warner Cochran died on July 9, 2025. She was born in Los Angeles on November 11, 1940 to Elizabeth and Weldon Warner. Growing up, she lived in Sacramento where she performed in theater and enjoyed horseback riding. Her family moved to Oakland her junior year of high school. Susan graduated at age sixteen from Oakland High.
Susan majored in Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi, the women's honor society Prytanean, and chaired the ASUC Women's Judicial Committee. While at Cal, she met her late husband, Richard Cochran. They wed in 1960 and graduated together in 1961.
After graduation, Susan worked as a social worker in Oakland until the birth of their first child. They then moved to Piedmont, where they happily remained for over sixty years. Susan was a devoted wife and mother to three children. She and Dick also raised Dick's sister following the loss of their parents.
For more than fifty years, Susan was a member of East Bay Children's Theater. She was also passionate about rescuing animals. Susan belonged to Home Gardeners in Piedmont and The Bellevue Club in Oakland, serving on the boards of both clubs for many years.
Susan is survived by her children, grandchildren and family. A celebration of Susan's life will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 12 p.m. at Piedmont Community Church. Donations may be made in her memory to East Bay Children's Theater, Cal Alumni Association or the Oakland SPCA.
