Sybil Siegel Obituary

SIEGEL, Sybil Sheirs - Age 101, died peacefully on February 23, 2005 in Lincoln, CA. She was a woman of many talents and interests, the loving mother and mother-in-law of Barbara and Eugene Gorden; grandmother to two grandsons and their spouses Gary and Carol Ann Gorden and Gregory and Stephanie Gorden; great grandmother to Molly, Megan and Grant Gorden. Sybil grew up in Blackpool, England. A graduate of London Pantomime, she began a career as a dramatic actress and dancer and appeared in a number of British films. She came to San Francisco in 1942 after living in Salt Lake City, UT where she had started the Community Theater and was president of the Women's National Aviation Association. In San Francisco, she dedicated her skills to the inspirational work of the San Francisco Lighthouse Center for the Blind, where she became the Activities Director and directed the performances of The Shadow Players. Sybil also directed and acted in her own TV show, "It Happens Everywhere", which aired on KRON. In the midst of these activities Sybil still found time to work with the San Francisco Players Guild, a children's theater, bringing classic plays to schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1978 Mayor George Moscone recognized Sybil for her outstanding contributions to the San Francisco community. She was also affiliated with the Burlingame Methodist Church and the Burlingame Women's Club. At her request there will be no funeral and her ashes will be scattered in the waters of San Francisco Bay.
