Sylvia Mae Smith McCrea

Sept. 14, 1942 - Nov. 23, 2018

Born in Dallas, Texas, Sylvia moved to San Francisco with her parents as an infant. She was educated in the Catholic Parochial School System in San Francisco, attending Saint Anne's of the Sunset, Star of the Sea and Saint Emidius Grammar Schools, and graduating from Mercy High School in 1960. She attended San Francisco City College and San Francisco State University. Sylvia had many friends to share the Ingleside Terrace neighborhood, and there are many stories about how Sylvia and her friends met up to walk one way to their grammar schools and then the other way to attend high school and college. She met her husband Donald McCrea in 1965 and they married in 1967, living in various locations, finally settling in Larkspur for the last 48 years. Sylvia was a homemaker; she also worked as a teaching assistant at St. Patrick School and volunteered regularly in her community.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Don; daughters Madeleine of Tiburon, Deborah of San Rafael (Manuel Castro) and Michelle of Cotati (Lorenzo Dughi). An infant son Michael died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Also surviving are granddaughters Jasmine Castro of Barcelona, Spain and Valentina Castro of San Rafael. Sylvia also leaves her beloved brother Robert (Valerie) Smith of San Anselmo, and beloved sister Ruth Anne (Alan) Mildwurm of San Ramon. Sylvia also leaves many close friends with whom she shared countless luncheons and coffee breaks.
