Theodore Tarail Obituary

Theodore "Ted" T. Tarail Born August 26, 1913, in Brooklyn, NY, passed away peacefully in Waimea, HI, on October 9, 2007. Ted lived in Berkeley for many years. His two wives, Millie and Pearl predeceased him. Ted was a tireless mover and shaker. After receiving his MA in social work and marrying Millie during the Depression he worked helping others for 60 years. He taught community organization at UC Berkeley and two universities in Sydney, Australia. After his last retirement from employed life, he volunteered helping other seniors, doing this well into his 80s. After Pearl died, he moved to Hawaii to be near his daughters and his last days were full of joy. He took on the challenges of his move from Berkeley to Hawaii Island in stride. Ted was a gentle and loving soul at the end of his life. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of good company, good food, laughter, and the sweet smell of flowers to the very end. He was appreciative of everyone and he was a teacher to many with his acceptance of what life had handed him. He is greatly missed. He is survived by two daughters, Alice and Phyllis Tarail of Kukuihaele, HI; stepchildren, Art, Mel, Shari Simburg; grandsons, Matei and Eron Tarail; one great granddaughter, Teya Tarail; three step grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a private family service and a celebration of his life on December 3, 2007 in Hawaii. Please send any donations in the name of Theodore T. Tarail to North Hawaii Hospice, 65-1328 Kawaihae Road, Kamuela HI 96743.

We were so sorry to hear of Ted's passing. As a cousin, from the Weinreb side of the family, I remember many happy times when Ted came to my parent's house in Hayward, CA. I, along with my mother, Ilene and sisters, Rachel and Judith, send our condolences to the family. Deborah Weinreb Jacobsen
