Theodore G. Vincent

Theodore G. Vincent 1936-2009 Ted Vincent, independent scholar and author of many books including "Black Power and the Garvey Movement" (1971) and "The Legacy of Vicente Guerrero, Mexico's first Black President" (2003), passed away on Sunday, June 14, from unexpected complications following heart surgery. Ted was an avid runner, political activist, musician and teacher. He was a consultant to the Oakland Museum's current exhibit, "The African Presence in Mexico." He is survived by his children Teo, Rickey and Mimi; grandchildren David, Marcus and Gary; and great grandchild Kaden. He also leaves behind his wife Selma, ex-wife Toni; loving sisters Jenny, Joanie, Susie, Lucy and their families. For many years he enjoyed the love of his late wife Bernice; her four daughters and grandchildren. A celebration of Ted's life will be held later this summer.
