My deepest condolences to the family and friends who loved Tom. While studying at the San Francisco Art Institute, Tom Was my painting teacher and I became his Teaching Assistant. We became great friends and would watch international films together. He had a wry sense of humor and he taught me so much. Thanks Tom You are Loved.

Tom was a true artist.. I met him in 1963 when he and my father attended UC Berkeley... over the year I have been blessed enough to collect 9 pieces of his work.. they are on display in my home and they bring immense joy to me everyday... I cannot imagine living in a home without an Akawie painting on display... Vaya con Dios Tom and thank you for being a big part of my life!

Tom was my painting prof at CCAC in the early 80s. A small gang of us loved Tom and were just blown away by his painting skills. He invited us all to his studio in Berkeley and I for one was truly awed by his talent; he inspired me in my life to go on to a career in graphic design . . . good old Tom, he was easily the best professor I ever had at university and I'm so sorry he's gone . . .
Best regards and condolences to all
