Victor Pritchard Reed

Victor Pritchard Reed Born May 20, 1920 at Oxford, MI, died suddenly May 24, 2009 at Walnut Creek. Vic attended the University of Michigan where he was an editor of the Michigan Daily. His career in journalism began with the Blue Network in Chicago. At the outbreak of World War II he joined the Office of War Information in Chicago and was later transferred to San Francisco. After the war he joined the news division of American Broadcasting Company in San Francisco. When KGO Channel 7 began television broadcast, Vic was its first evening news anchor. He later worked as Channel 7's News Director and Manager of News and Special Events. In recognition of his contributions to television broadcasting he was elected to Broadcast Legends in 1998. Vic attended University of San Francisco School of Law, was admitted to the California Bar in 1965, and for 40 years specialized in the representation of radio and television stations in labor-management and FCC licensing issues. Vic was active in civic affairs and numerous charitable organizations. He was a member of The Family and Meadow Club. A fifty year resident of Mill Valley, he moved to Sonoma in 1999 and most recently lived in Walnut Creek. Vic followed in death his wife of 63 years, Nora O'Brien Reed; and three daughters. He is survived by sons Dan and Bill (Mary) and four grandchildren - Matthew, Megan, Michael and Peter Reed. He was a devoted husband, father, friend, sage, and raconteur. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church, 2601 San Ramon Valley Blvd., San Ramon Saturday, May 30th 2009, at 11am.
