Vince Jerome Rosato, age 62, passed away suddenly on October 8, 2016, at home in San Leandro, California. Vince was passionate about teaching, social justice and helping the poor. He was tireless in making a difference in people's lives. He liked to have fun and socialize, and he kept up with a huge group of friends. He was a man of many interests with boundless energy and an enthusiasm for life that was unsurpassed. He was loved and respected by many people, all of whom will miss him greatly.

From 1991-1997 he taught at the Reignierd School and special education subjects at Milestones for Development in Vallejo, California. He moved on to St. Joseph School in Fremont, California, and Searles Elementary School in Union City. He married the love of his life, Usha, in 2001. He retired from teaching in the New Haven School District in 2014; was elected to the San Leandro School Board later the same year, and was currently serving as the President of the Board.
Following his retirement, Vince enrolled and graduated from the Alameda County Master Gardeners program in 2016; he has been actively involved in numerous activities within the local community and was leading the efforts for Community Emergency Response Training teams.

Vince, you were a leader in many ways. So much of your time was devoted to others, your selflessness was highly valued. May the Lord grant you the peace you so richly deserve.

I enjoyed working with Vince for many years at Searles..but it was as the parent of one of his fifth grade students I learned to truly appreciate his passion for imparting knowledge, his limitless patience, and his sense of humor. My son struggled with his studies, but eagerly went to school every day working extra hard to impress Mr. Rosato. His gifts IEP's with achievable goals, daily encouragement, approaching even the hardest lessons with joy and enthusiasm, throwing in a little fun on the side. He asked about my son often all through middle and high school, showed concern when he dropped out of college, Vince honestly and truly cared. Vince improved the quality of every life he touched, the world will be a sadder place without him. I am so grateful for the gift he gave my son, and so many kids like him, grateful to have had him in our lives.

I met Vince at a math workshop and at the CUE conference. He helped me when my cell phone died to call a ride and he also let me call him at home when my position as a teacher-librarian was eliminated from Hillview Crest Elementary school. He tried to help persuade the district to let me back in the classroom. I also work for the San leandro Public library and Vince would come by to say hi. Many San Leandro residents would also talk about how great he was doing as a member of the San leandro school board. Vince will be greatly missed by many
