Vivian Staten Obituary
02/18/1945 - 05/20/2025
Vivian Idean Staten was born on February 18, 1945, in Halifax County, Virginia. She was the third of nine children born to the late Nephew and Alice Staten. Vivian attended public schools in Halifax County, Virginia. She married Clarence W. Perkins, Sr., and they had one son, Clarence W. Perkins, Jr.
Vivian moved to Oakland, California, where she formed wonderful friendships that remained loyal and close to her until her passing. Vivian had a passion for games and sports and was very competitive. She excelled in tennis, participating in numerous singles and doubles tournaments.
On May 20, 2025, God called Vivian to her eternal resting place. She is survived by her devoted son, Clarence Jr.; daughter-in-law, Shirley; granddaughter, Sydney; and grandson, Miles, who reside in Porter Ranch, California. She is also survived by two brothers, Ralph Staten, Sr. of South Boston, Virginia, and James Staten (Jewell) of Richmond, Virginia; three sisters, Odessa Staten-Crews of White Plains, Maryland, Faye Staten-Brown (Leon) of Temple Hills, Maryland, and Brenda Staten of Charlotte, North Carolina; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Nephew and Alice Staten; one brother, William "Bill" Allen Staten; two sisters, Rosa Staten Perkins and Mable Staten Haddock; and by her former husband, Clarence W. Perkins Sr., and husbands Elton Steinbeck, and Sanford "Stan" Collins.
Vivian's Celebration of Life will take place at Piedmont Community Hall at 1 pm on July 13, 2025.
