Wajih Sleiman Obituary

Wajih Sleiman Dec. 28, 1937 - Nov. 3, 2009 After a long brave battle with cancer, Wajih entered eternal life early Tuesday morning, November 3rd. Born in Palestine, Wajih was raised in Lebanon. He attended the American University of Beirut where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His career took him all over the world, and everywhere he went, his amazing personality, his contagious laughter and sweet sense of humor, his beautifully gorgeous giving heart helped him form life long friendships. He indeed touched the life of so many with his gentle genuine care. To his family, immediate and extended, Wajih was: a model son, a fabulously loving, incredibly committed husband and father, a protective and doting brother, a guiding light for his niece and nephews, a godfather like none other to many. Wajih loved nature, he was an avid gardener and he especially took great pride in his gorgeous dahlias admired by all. He also was an accomplished athlete, great sportsman till the end of his days. He loved the ocean and the mountains equally and was a superb skier on all surfaces. However, his most favorite past time by far was to care for and play with his precious granddaughters. Wajih is survived by his wife Nayla, his children Sharif Sleiman (Heidi), and Zein Stearman (Todd), by his Granddaughters Mayya and Safiya Sleiman, Isabella, Layya and Misha Stearman. By his brothers Hanna Suleiman (Sandy), and Issa Sleiman (Aicha), by his sisters Nadia Suleiman, and Marie Gharib (Rizk). By his niece Laya Kaigh (Ted) and his nephews Ziad Sleiman, Sasha Suleiman, and Tony (Zeina) and Elie (Mireille) Gharib And by all those who loved him enormously and are proud to have know him. And above all, Wajih was a devout Christian entirely committed to the needs of his church. Trisagion (Rosary) service on Thursday November 5th, at 7:00 pm will be celebrated at the Church of the Redeemer, 380 Magdalena Ave., Los Altos Hills. Funeral service will be held at the Church of the Redeemer at 10:30 am on Friday November 6th followed by the internment at Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 at Skyline Boulevard. Dear Nayla,
Katarina and I have been going through old photos to continue the process of digitizing them. One of the very first was of you and Wajih with Katarina in front of your house in Doha when we came over from Kuwait to stay with you - 1971!! Hard to believe. That led us to do an online search, where we were deeply saddened to find Wajih's obituary, now 11 years old. But what an inspiring tribute it was to one of the nicest people (along with you) that we have ever been privileged to know. In the years since leaving Kuwait in 1971 (shortly after our visit to you two) we have thought and spoken of you innumerable times, hoping to find some opportunity to hook up again. Don't know why finding you never worked before this.
On LinkedIn I found a lady with your name resident in the UK. Could that be you?
We would love to be in touch.
Very best,
Gerry Hamilton

Dear Nayla and family,
It was very sad for me when Najib told me over the phone. I was alone travelling back home. It was beyond me to loose such a lifetime friend. The memories of Doha are always with us and Wajih's memory is there with his big smile. What great days of good time and frienship we enjoyed woking and parctically living together . His passing away will leave a big gap as his love and respect to all was really something that we will alyws remember.
May God rest his soul and give him what he deserves in his eternal life for he deserves the best.

Dear Nayla and family,
It is with great sadness that I read of Wajih's death. Riyad had seen the notice in the Mercury News and passed it on to Michel and me. I immediately called Michel, though it was 11 pm in California, to make sure he knew about it. He had, and he plans to be with all of you representing our family at church tomorrow. We send you all our love and our best wishes. Wajih was such a warm, gracious, and loving person who brought sunshine to the cloudiest of days. May we all live by his example.
With love from Beirut,
Patricia Nabti
