I was saddened to come across this page. I was a patient of Dr. Del Carlo for a short time before his retirement. In the few visits I had with him, I was touched by his kindness, honor and sense of history. Visiting him felt like travelling back to a better time, and his passing feels like a loss to us all.

I am so sorry for you loss. Dr. DelCarlo has been my dentist since I was 21 (45 years), and no one has been able to take his place. He lived a great life. And it was my pleasure knowing him. May he Rest in Peace.

I'm so sorry to hear about Dr. Del Carlo. I was a patient of his for a number of years, up until his retirement. I remember, as a captive audience, being entertained by his stories of growing up in the Marina and his other reminiscences of an older and kinder San Francisco.

I was so shocked to hear of dr DelCarlo’s passing. I was a patient until I moved to Colorado in 2017. I even flew back a few times for my cleanings. I couldn’t bare to go to another Dentist. I heard he retired, but never knew it was for health reasons. I know he will be missed greatly by his family, friends and patients. So sorry for your loss.

Im sad to learn of Waynes passing. He was my dentist for his entire career. He was also our family dentist. Wayne was the ultimate professional and a kind and gentle man. Ill miss the conversations about growing up in the City, about Italian-American life, and the changing nature of dentistry throughout the decades. He was truly a special person we were all fortunate enough to know.

Doc was a great dentist, man, and father-in-law. He was a man of few words much of the time, especially when I began to date his daughter. Over the years I heard so many dental stories, stories about the old neighborhood, the history of San Francisco...one thing that never changed was his service to others. Be it as a Naval dentist, or sitting on many boards over the years to ensure that mouth health was a priority, and available. Under his direction his grandkids never had a cavity. A good life. An honorable life. We are all better for having Wayne Del Carlo as part of our lives. RIP

Wayne del Carlo was my dentist from when I was three until his retirement, about 45 years. I remember as a child loving my trips to the dentist because at the end I could pick out a toy from the toy drawer. And when I brought my own kids 37 years later he still offered up jump ropes and plastic rings from the drawer. His patience with children was beautiful.
I learned a lot about Dr. Del Carlo after 120+ visits. He spoke lovingly and proudly of his children and later grandchildren. He spoke of his high school shenanigans, most of which he got away with. And he spoke of his visits with his mother and the San Francisco neighborhood he grew up in.
He wasn't always a fan of change. He didn't like creative dental billing that unbundled treatments to bill more for insurance. He didn't see the need to adopt any other software product than his trusty 1990s FileMaker Pro. And he thought rating dentists on Yahoo.com was an abomination.
Dr. Del Carlo's commitment to service went beyond service to his profession and volunteering in schools. He mentored me as I worked to navigate dental board regulations for my college's dental assisting program. When my son needed an orthodontist, he immediately got on the phone with his network to find the best in my county. He spoke proudly of working with the dental board to test newly educated dentists. If there was some way Dr. Del Carlo could help you, he would.
If he was ever tired or having a bad day, hebnever showed it. His demeanor was always cheerful, engaging, and supportive. As a teenager, I thought he was way cooler than my own parents.
I'm deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Del Carlo's passing, and my thoughts are with the family I've learned so much about over the years. He was a great person and will be missed. He deserves to be drinking a glass of good wine up in heaven.

So very sorry to hear that Wayne has passed away. He was an honorable, humorous, and easy-going person but also a real stickler to details. I enjoyed his stories and sense of humor. He was committed to the dental profession, the International College of Dentists, and to his patients. I will miss him as a friend and colleague. May he Rest in Peace.

Dear Roxanne and friends and family of Wayne. I am so very sorry to read that Wayne has passed away. Wayne and i and others used to hang out together in the Marina Dist at John Isi's drug store on Octavia and Lombard. I have not seen Wayne since i departed San Francisco in 1963 to attend Navy OCS but i never forgot his laughter and his good nature. I always felt that we were good friends with similar backgrounds , then Wayne went to dental school and married Roxanne and i made a career as a Naval Officer. Wayne was a genuine and faithful person and i regret that i was not in the Bay Area to enjoy his company. God bless Wayne, Roxanne .
Sincerely
Ed Musante

Dr.Del Carlo was my dentist for 46 years. Having been a battered kid, I was so jittery about having someone hover over my face that Dr. Del Carlo was the only dentist I wanted to go to. He took his time, made a few jokes, paused with the drill and took care of things. I received a free toothbrush too.
When I moved to the town of Sonoma, I returned to The City because I would go to no other dentist. My kids went to Dr. Del Carlo, and my grand kids also.
I'm sorry to learn that Dr. Del Carlo is gone. I hope he didn't suffer and I'm glad his family was with him.
He was a very good man. Blessed be his life.
