I became friends with Bill living in the dorms at the University of New Mexico, where we played music together most every day. Bill was a very generous and kind person who lifted my musicianship and helped me grow as a person in significant ways. To this day many of the songs we played together are still in the front of my repertoire, and remain full of meaning to me. I lost touch with Bill for many years, but still checked in with him on occasion, and am deeply saddened to find his obit.

Bill was one of my best friends growing up in Larchmont, NY. We both played in our first band together, and Bill was a terrific musical partner, and taught me much about the guitar, including the "DeKuiper chord" - a difficult chord that at the time, only he knew. Through the years, I have taught that same chord to my guitar students always identifying it as the DeKuiper chord, and that's how they now think of it. Bill was a trend-setter, always looking for what was new and stimulating. He was enthusiastic about everything, always active, always doing fun and cool things. The days we spent together when we were kids, I will always cherish. So very sad about his passing.

Sue McClintock has been keeping me up to date with Bill's condition. Very sorry to hear of his passing. I wish I could have met him. We could have talked for hours about jazz music and shared the music and artisits that we both enjoyed.

I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to read this beautiful tribute to Bill. I know him only as the brother of my dear friend Kristin, but I now feel touched by his presence on this earth and knowing a bit more about the music, people, and places he loved. My deepest condolences go to Sandy and Kristin, and to all those who held him dear. With love, Deborah
