William Holmes Obituary
October 14, 1930 - October 17, 2017
Bill Holmes of Fremont, CA, died after a short but devastating bout with cancer.Bill was married to the love of his life, Jean Holmes, for nearly 65 years. He was the father of Rick Holmes (Susan), Chris Holmes, and Shawna Holmes (David Smith), and grandfather of Ian, Amanda (deceased) and Garrett Holmes, and Avery Smith. His extended family includes sisters Joy Maguire and Melissa Snyder, sister-in-law Judy Van Geison and five nieces.
Bill was born and raised in San Francisco, son of William F. and Jeanne A. Holmes (both deceased), attended Lowell High School and Cal, and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was elected Permanent Class President of the Class of '52 and was helping plan their 65th Reunion at the time of his death.
After Cal, Bill served in the army and later joined his father in the Wm. F. Holmes Co. He ultimately took over the family business, enjoyed working with his sons, and was actively engaged right up to the end of his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Fremont on Sunday, November 19 from 2:30 to 4:30 PM at Niles Discovery Church, 36600 Niles Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536. In lieu of flowers, the family would like Bill to be remembered through contributions to the LIFE ElderCare Program in Fremont: https://lifeeldercare.org/donate/

While I never met Bill, our paths crossed in 1948, when I was in my first year at Lowell High and Bill was in his graduating year. Then, while I was a freshman at Cal, Bill was in his senior year in 1952.
My heart goes out Jean and the family for the loss.
