William Hooy Obituary

William John Hooy April 7, 1931 - August 30, 2008 44-Year Resident of Concord On Saturday, August 30th, Bill's journey came to an end. He passed away peacefully in his sleep. Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Barbara and three adoring children, Bob, Joan and Karen; and six grandsons, Scott, Will, Rick, Eric, Jason and Andre. Bill was born to Agatha Van Erp and Albert Hooy. He was a graduate of Lowell High School in 1949 and joined the US Navy as part of the Officers Candidate School. He served in the submarine force during the Korean War. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1952 where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He earned his law degree from Boalt Hall in 1957. Thereafter, he worked for Chevron until he founded his own firm in Concord in 1974, where he continued to practice law some 45 years until his retirement in 2004. His son Bob with whom he worked for more than 20 years continues the practice that Bill started that bears his and his son's name, Hooy & Hooy, PLC. Bill was a man of great faith, and demonstrated his devotion by working tirelessly, from the time he moved his family to Concord in 1964 until he could no longer do so, for the First Presbyterian Church of Concord, where he served as deacon, trustee and elder. For nearly a decade, Bill was a member and officer of the Clayton Valley/Concord Sunrise Rotary Club. Bill also served on a number of Concord City boards and commissions. Upon retirement, he joined SIRS where he held several positions, including Big SIR. In SIRS, he enjoyed his large circle of friends and built new long standing relationships while attending day excursions throughout the Bay Area, fishing trips throughout California and learning to cook. A Celebration of Bill's life will be held on Friday, September 12th at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Concord, 1965 Colfax Street. Bill has asked that any donations made in his honor be given to First Presbyterian Church of Concord. Ouimet Brothers Chapel 925-682-4242

Barbara,
I was so sorry to learn that Bill had died. Although it has been a long time since I saw either of you, I remember how warm and friendly a person he was. May you find assurance in the fact that you two built a wonderful family together. Joan has said how lovely your children are.

I was so saddened to hear of Bill's passing. He was a wonderful man - I remember the years he was a dedicated member of the Cambridge board, and was proud of him as a fellow Rotarian. My sympathies to Barbara, Bob and his daughters - I hope the affection and esteem that so many of us have for him will comfort you a little.

Stan and I were saddened to read of Bill's passing. Barbara and family, you have our deepest sympathies.
As a member of the Clayton Valley Woman's Club, I understand how much our spouses help with our endeavors and our fund raising. We remember how much Bill supported Barbara and our members with our projects.
May he rest in peace.

There are people who makes you feel special and welcome. Bill is one such. His warm, welcoming smile will be the only memory of him that will linger forever. I can picture him on the other side doing exactly that.
