William Langbehn Obituary

William (Bill) Langbehn
June 22, 1961 - May 7, 2023
William "Bill" Langbehn passed away in Oakland on May 7th at the age of 61. Bill was born in San Francisco to parents Annette and Bill Langbehn. He earned his BS and MS degrees from the University of California, Berkeley School of Engineering. In 1998 he founded the Langbehn Geotechnical Group, and established himself as a highly respected Geotechnical Engineer throughout the Bay Area.
Bill had a huge passion for hunting and fishing and shared many days in the marsh blinds and mountain streams with his great friends. He mentored countless others in the sport of waterfowl hunting. Bill was also a competitive Footbag player. He earned the nickname "Camping Man" for regularly camping in his trusty Ford F-150 with its "ALWAZGO" license plate at competitions. In 1987, he and his Footbag partner Brent Welch set a Guinness World Record for the Open One Pass Kick, making 10,454 passes. He was inducted by his peers into the Footbag Hall of Fame in 2010. He will be remembered by his loved ones as someone who enjoyed hosting family and friends for BBQ parties, poker nights, margaritas, and his legendary holiday feasts.
Bill is survived by his wife Kerri; his daughters Hannah and Leah; his siblings Susan Langbehn Ott, Donna Wells, Gloria Carroll, Anne Cosenza, Ron Glendon and Phil Glendon; his step-father Jeff Henigan; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Michael Glendon, and step-mother Helen Langbehn.
A celebration of life will be held on June 18th, 2023. For more information about the services, please email [email protected].
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in memory of Bill K. Langbehn be made to the California Waterfowl Association (https://calwaterfowl.org/)

my thoughts are with all of you in heaven. i am sure there are no "limits" and you are all having a "Gramsie" style celebration. Your wife is still the catch of the day and she and Leah are keeping your camping life on "Alwayzgo"--i will miss you forever and thanks for watching over all of us.

Bill was a professional associate. I was always taken with the comfort with which he explained complex geological issues to nascent home buyers. He was candid but gentle and clearly showed his excitement about the subject. It was a pleasure to watch him work. I referred him clients for decades. He´s irreplaceable.

Damn. Just missed the memorial. I knew Bill before he was famous, before he could drink legally. Before he got better than me at footbag. Bill and Will. First worlds championship. So many stories I could share...

Bill was my go-to recommendation for geotechnical engineer. He was so enthusiastic and capable. I was greatly saddened to learn of his passing from a mutual friend. So glad we had him all those years.

This goes back to the summer of 1976 -- my beloved nephew fed his love for the country to all of us. Over the years he brought us Kerri and the girls. Outstanding gifts!

I am very sorry for the years he suffered, and am happy he is at peace. My parents, his parents and all of those in heaven are rejoicing. 0x, ak-sf

Bill Langbehn is responsible for some of the best moments of mine and my daughter Sahara's young life.

Bill, an avid soccer fan, was developing a soccer team, The Bears out of EL Cerrito. They were short a few players and Bill called me personally to ask if Sahara could join.

I could see it met a lot to my daughter, to Bill and to Hannah. So I said yes. Not fully understanding what it was we were getting into.

That was an understatement!

Because of Bill, Sahara and I made so many new friends, traveled all over Northern California, and experienced so many exciting games!

My particular favorite was what I called The Mudder´s Game! As I recall it was in Alameda, and it was pouring rain the entire weekend.

I mean cats and dogs! It ended up where The Bears got to the championship game, against a team with a significantly superior record.

The game was Nip & Tuck. I remember Bill calling timeout and huddling with the girls in the pouring rain while boosting the team and relaying strategy.

Despite the pouring rain, and a formidable opponent I could sense belief in the team.

They executed Bill's strategy, and The Bears (also known as The Mudder´s on that day) won by one goal!

In a monsoon, The Bears and their parents were grinning ear to ear!

Bill gave us this, and many more similar experiences.

In looking back, that was a Golden Era of time spent with my daughter.

In fact to this day, the contact picture of Sahara in my iPhone, is her and I standing on a field with Sahara wearing her Bears Uniform.

I would be remiss if I did not mention what a spectacular soccer player his daughter Hannah was.

A true scoring machine!

While time has gone by, and things have changed. Bill, Kerri, Hannah and Leah have always maintained a special place in my heart.

A heart filled with gratitude and wonderful memories that we all experienced together, thanks to Bill.

I've known Bill for pretty much my entire life. My Uncle has been longtime friends with the Langbehn's and had fond memories of camping at Burney Falls over the past 15 years. My thoughts go out to Kerri, Hannah, Leah, and Bill's extended family and relatives. Bill will always be remembered for years ahead.
