Winifred Gorn Obituary
Oct. 16, 1928 - Sept. 16, 2021
Winifred Gorn lived a life of kindness, grace and purpose. She died at home, in her sleep, of heart complications. She was 92. Born Winifred Lauretta Pearson on Oct. 16, 1928 in Porterville, Calif., her mother died when she was 8, and she was raised in nearby Tulare by her aunt Olivia Edwards and family – including four boys who became her brothers. She attended San Jose State University and played flute in the San Jose Symphony. She married screenwriter and novelist Lester Gorn in 1954 and had four children, all boys. She earned her Master's degree at California State University Hayward and worked as a school psychologist in Pacifica schools and was a pioneer in art therapy. She had a thoughtful and direct approach that put everyone at ease, had fun with people and everywhere she went, she made friends for life. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by sons Rick, David, Ted and Philip, and by seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Lester, her sister Rose and brothers Jeff, Glenn, Clyde and Foster Edwards.

I was much enamored of Winnie. I was her flute repair man for quite a few years and always enjoyed any interaction I had with her. I found her to be the epitome of a great woman; calm, graceful, gracious and kind. Every now and then, I would wonder how she was getting on and if she was still playing her lovely Kern flute. I will miss her, but certainly she lives on in memory. My sincere condolences. Daniel Deitch

I was privileged to meet Winnie, my mother's cousin, abt 12 years ago. What a wonderful woman, friend, cousin she has been. I will miss our visits in her kitchen over lunch. She has taught me so much abt family -- specifically ours, but also what it means to be family. Thank you Winnie.
