Yee-Mui Lee Yang

Yee-Mui Lee Yang, a resident of San Francisco since 1961, passed away on October 31, 2021. Born in 1925 in Hong Kong, she was the daughter of Har-Wing and Shuk-Lin Lee. She came to the United States to earn her Master's degree in Horticulture from Iowa State University with the intention of returning to China to help manage her family's farmland. Her plans changed when she met and married fellow student Jen-Tsi "Frank" Yang with whom she shared 47 years of marriage.


The two were avid travelers, including six months in France and many trips to China, Japan, Australia, Russia and the Middle East. She loved a game of mah-jongg and trips to casinos; working in her garden into her 90's; reading mysteries; and singing. She was an adventurous cook not only of Chinese food, but also her famous spaghetti sauce, paella, and baklava. In her 70's she revisited her love of painting and filled her home with impressive watercolors.


Yee-Mui is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Janet (Mike Heberling) Yang and Frances (Ron Anderson) Yang, and her grandchildren Elizabeth, Kevin, and Holly. She was predeceased by her husband Jen-Tsi and her daughter Joan.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021, from 12:30 to 1:30, at the McAvoy O'Hara Evergreen Mortuary in San Francisco. Interment will follow at Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Colma.
