Yvonne McDevitt Peterson

Yvonne McDevitt Peterson Passed away peacefully May 31, 2007 at her home in Greenbrae at the age of 93. Beloved wife of 61 years to the late Eldon T. Peterson; adored mother of Joanne Peterson Spotswood, Theodore Edward Peterson, and William Charles Peterson; dear mother-in-law of Richard David Spotswood; devoted grandmother of Elizabeth Anne Spotswood and Alexander Peterson Spotswood. She was predeceased by her sister, Kathleen McDevitt, RSCJ, and brother, Edward Anthony McDevitt. Born in San Francisco, Yvonne relished all the experiences and changes throughout her long life. As a child, she rode behind Brownie in the horse drawn cart that was kept at the family home on Divisadero Street. She attended Convent of the Sacred Heart elementary and high schools where she collected Trés Bien Awards for scholarship and good behavior The opening of the Golden Gate Bridge saw Yvonne joining the throngs of those who walked across. While the Depression thwarted her college plans, Yvonne went to work at Wells Fargo Bank where she was secretary to "Pete" Peterson who, one day, invited her to watch him bowl....and eventually to marry him. Raising the family in Burlingame, Yvonne entered the world of den mother, PTA, and the parish life of Our Lady of Angels as a Eucharistic minister. She loved her circle of friends in Little Club, History Club, and the neighbors on Easton Drive. Later, she and Pete traveled often. A lengthy stay in the south of France, where she could practice her French and bask in the impressionists, was her favorite adventure. A 20 year resident of The Tamalpais in Greenbrae, Yvonne polished her bridge game and became an avid mah jong player. She and Pete loved and appreciated the new friends, activities, and care they received there. Friends and family are invited to Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, 11 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church, 373 Bon Air Road, Greenbrae.
