Anton Kerckhoff Obituary

Jan. 2, 1930 - Aug. 24, 2021 Anton W. Kerckhoff, born January 2, 1930, in Covina, California. Died on August 24, 2021. Survived by his four children, Brian Branine, Diana March, Laurence Kerckhoff and Michael Kerckhoff. Grandchildren Blake and Tara Branine of Sacramento, California, Nicolas and Elizabeth March of Scottsdale, Arizona and Sierra and Kaelin Kerckhoff of Sacramento. He graduated from Santa Clara University in 1951, served four years in the USAF and graduated from UCLA School of Law in 1957. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1958 and maintained a Martindale-Hubbell Five Star rating throughout his long career as an Estate Planning Attorney. He was a member of the Covina Rotary Club for over 30 years. He served a term as the President of the Pomona Valley Bar Association and was legal counsel for the Covina Irrigating Company of Covina for over 60 years. He was an integral figure in the community regarding water issues and his wealth of knowledge in that area was remarkable. He was an avid skier, surfer, hunter and fisherman in his youth and continued hunting and fishing into his 50s. He was a supporter of environmental issues as he served as the President of the Board for the Kerckhoff Ranch Company for his family's ranch in Arroyo Grande, California for decades. He coached little league for years and served on the board for the league as well. In his later years, he enjoyed growing beautiful roses in his lush backyard while feeding peanuts to blue jays and engaging in a never ending battle with a squirrel that he fondly referred to as "Fearless Fosdik". He was known to leave catfood out for a local skunk that seemed to enjoy his company in the evenings on his patio. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his ability to talk about just about anything to anyone.

I worked for Tony from 1978 through 1979. He was a dream of a boss. He greeted me every morning with Good morning Sunshine. He was warm and funny, and truly a professional. I loved the rotary functions he was involved in we all took part.

My sincere condolences to Tony's family and friends on his passing. I knew Tony as a business associate from when I worked at Covina City Hall. Tony would come into the office to discuss various projects, and argued his points on those projects at Planning Commission meetings. He was always pleasant, funny and loved to converse! May he rest in peace.
