Cameron Turner Obituary

Mr. Cameron Turner, well-known Altadena-based writer, journalist, broadcaster, and public speaker, died due to overwhelming septic shock following pneumonia. He was 52 years old.

Cameron was born on April 20, 1963, in Los Angeles, CA to his parents, Mildred and Raymond Turner. A John Muir High School alumnus, he graduated from Stanford University with a BA in Communications degree. Cameron married Mignon Bolivar, a Sr. Property Field & Catastrophe Adjuster one week after the Northridge Earthquake in 1994 and on December 5, 1996 and October 11, 1998, he welcomed his two beautiful daughters, who were the most important part of his life.

As a talented journalist, Cameron wrote news, feature articles and opinion pieces for Pasadena Now, The Pasadena Weekly, The Pasadena Journal and the L.A. Times. He contributed regularly to print and online media including Top Agent, TheFix.com, Urban Thought Collective and the Electronic Urban Report. He also worked as an editor for Lee Bailey's radio program "Radioscope," which was broadcast locally on KJLH 102.3-FM. Cameron fully owned and created "Hollywood Hotwire", an entertainment multi-media content program for over 600 national and syndicated radio stations. He recently created "Turner's Two Cents" a political and social commentary blog which he intended to transcribe into a book. Cameron Turner was a commentator and news panelist on NBC 4 and wrote scripts and hosted radio programs for DMI Music and Media Solutions. He was a well-known public speaker and served as keynote speaker, master of ceremonies, and panel moderator for several community organizations, civil agencies, schools and churches.

Cameron performed volunteer work with the John Muir Alumni Association and Monrovia School District. From October 2013, he also served as media specialist and mentoring programs coordinator for John Muir's Mentoring and Partnership for Youth Development (MPYD), a campus-based nonprofit organization that provides support and mentorship to male students at the school by encouraging their academic achievement and social skills development. Cameron actively served in the activities of Pasadena's First African Methodist Episcopal (FAME) Church of which he was a member.

As a public speaker, Cameron was a dynamic and socially-conscious motivational speaker dedicated to inspiring positive action, bridging the gaps between diverse groups, and motivating people - particularly African-American and Latino youth - to uncover their God-given talents, draw power from their heritage and strive for personal and collective greatness.

Cameron was a devoted father and avid classic movie/television enthusiast. He loved to debate Star Trek and Twilight Zone plots with his wife and collect movie memorabilia. He also loved spending countless hours playing board-games with his daughters and looked just as forward to playing in the snow as building bonfires at the beach with his girls. Mr. Turner is survived by his wife Mignon, his two daughters, Jordan and Jasmine, his brothers Kevin and Arnold, his sister Marla and his father Raymond Turner. He is preceded in death by his mother Mildred Turner.
