Frank Thompson Obituary

Frank B. Thompson, MD
July 31, 1934 - September 18, 2012

Outstanding father of three and grandfather of six, loving husband to Joan of nearly 52 years, Frank died Tuesday. Born in tiny Eton, Georgia and graduate of Duke Medical School, Frank was a renowned ophthalmologist who helped to pioneer a range of medical techniques, including scleral reinforcement surgery. Yet he was most proud of his loving family and, in turn, was most beloved by friends, colleagues and patients for his genuine Southern charm and his ability to talk the horns off a brass goat. We will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, children Steve (Meri), Kyra (Chuck) and Doug (Nina) and grandchildren Matthias, Marie, Sophia, James, Erica and Cy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Polytechnic School (in memory of Dr. Frank Thompson, 1030 East California Blvd. Pasadena, CA 91106) or Huntington Hospital Philanthropy Office (100 West. California Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91105). Frank would also love it if you can help replenish the blood he received by considering a donation at the Huntington Hospital blood bank.
