He leaves behind Bobbie, his devoted wife of 28 years, and a daughter Nora (Dean) and a son Steven (Carrie). He was preceded in death by his son Mark (Darla) and his first wife, Marion. He always said he "got lucky twice." His four step-children are: Betsy Beattie Kortebein (Patrick), Elliott Beattie (Nell), Julie Beattie Iiams (Bill) and Leslie Beattie DeGeorge (Dennis.) He also leaves behind fourteen cherished grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Katie, Geordy, Nicholas, Christian, Willie, Brooks, Noble, Ellie, Cora, Melissa, Kaylin, Adele, Marcus and Donovan. He is also survived by his beloved Chihuahua, Mikey who still waits for him. René was a photographer from the age of 12 and graduated with honors from ArtCenter College of Design with a degree in photography. After a stint in the Navy, René spent 30 years designing and publishing annual reports and founded René Sheret Design. Lately, he reinvented himself into a Fine Art printmaker and used his photography skills creatively to produce and print Fine Art digital images. He also illustrated and wrote several childrens' books which were published. He was happiest when he was creating at his computer, sharing stories with his photography buddies, mentoring his numerous friends, traveling or drinking martinis, gin of course.

I grew up in Van Nuys, just a few doors down from Rene, in the 1960s-70s. I knew his entire family and they were like a second family to me. Rene piqued my interest in cycling and fifty plus years later it is still my favorite hobby. He used to take a group of us kids on a 5-10 mile ride in Van Nuys. During those days no one wore helmets and we felt like he always took us on a "big adventure." My interest in cycling grew and I bought my first road bike soon after. I would cycle with Rene and Mark typically up in the hills south of Van Nuys. On at least one occasion we cycled up to Mt. Wilson from home when the SFV was far less populated and motorists were friendlier. Rene was always encouraging, patient, and kind to me and I have thought about him often over the decades since. I am sorry for Nora and Steven's loss of their dad and mom (Marion).
