Anna Bohn Obituary

Bohn, Anna

Anna Bohn, age 89, died in her home surrounded by family on Thursday November 16, 2017. She was born January 10, 1928 in Kreutzfeld, East Prussia, to Albert Kutschke and Anna Arendt Kutschke. She and her surviving family fled East Prussia and emigrated to West Germany after the end of WWII. Unlike many East Prussian refugees, they knew to flee their homeland because Anna discovered, while captive in prison camp, that they were all to be deported to the Russian Gulag. She escaped the prison camp in the night and walked unknown miles to return home to alert her family and entire hometown, who successfully fled to West Germany. En route to the west, she contracted typhoid and her mother had to leave her in a Red Cross camp, believing she would die from the contagious disease. Through God's grace, and the strength of her faith and inner character, she survived the illness. After she recovered, she found her family in West Germany.

She married Waldemar Bohn in 1950, and they immigrated to America in 1952, living first in Illinois and then on the farm they bought in Howards Grove, Wisconsin in 1958. In addition to farming beef, they raised 10 children and are survived by 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Anna loved life and she loved the world. Her compassion had no limits. Her reliance on God cultivated a tender heart rather than bitterness or resentment for all the sorrow, pain and loss throughout her life. Those struggles deepened her prayer life and galvanized her to meet loss with generosity, starvation with abundance, and injustice with compassion. Her faith through harrowing life experiences made her the rock of Gibraltar, and her strength brought out strength in others. Her family strive to embody the joy and faith she passed on through her daily life example.

Anna is survived by her children: Berthold of Cheyenne, WY; Arthur (Katie) of Sheboygan, WI; Walter of Howards Grove, WI; Edmund (Janell) of Plymouth, WI; Bernadette (Paul) of Ashland, WI; Christine (Mark) of Sheboygan, WI; Theodore (Gloria) of Madison, WI; Herbert (Deb) of Newton, WI; and Rose of State College, PA. Anna was preceded in death by her husband (of 66 years) Waldemar (2016) and her daughter Barbara Bohn Mueller (1978).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A. M. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2133 N. 22nd St. Sheboygan. Rev Matthew Widder will celebrate the Mass. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass. Entombment will follow at Gardens of Peace Mausoleum.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Anna's arrangements.

Bohn Family:

So sorry for your loss. Our parents had that special family bond that was established in the early 50's. I recall the many stories, experiences, joy and fond memories that our families have shared over the years. These memories will never be forgotten! Please know that our parents are together again and these stories and family bonding will continue. Your family foundations have been establish from two great role models that I have adored and admired all my life. That special place in my heart will never be forgotten. I never knew your mom or any of her family but wish I had. What a life she endured and treasured. God bless you Anna, may you rest in peace.

You have my deepest sympathy for the loss of your mother and also recently your father. My father, Harold Guenther, delivered Mobil oil to your home years ago. He enjoyed talking German with them and they became friends. After my dad died, Anna would stop in to see my mother. Sometimes to visit and other times to bring produce. It meant a lot to her and my family as none of us have lived near Howards Grove for some time. Your family didn't have it easy when you came to WI, but persevered. Gods blessings to you all and may the memories of your Mom be your comfort in the days to come.

Condolences to the family of Anna. We appreciated all of you as our neighbors and babysitters, even your mom babysat for us when we needed someone at the last moment. We have fond memories of all of you. Take care and know that God has made a special place for her with him. God's blessings to you all.
