Jean Grace Toepel

Kohler - Jean Grace Toepel (nee Samsal), 83, of Kohler, went to Heaven peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at Emerald Bay Retirement Community in Hobart, WI.

Jean was born on January 19, 1937, in Sheboygan, WI, the youngest of seven children, to Ingvald and Emma (Knoblauch) Samsal. She was baptized on March 26, 1939. She was a 1955 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School. Jean graduated from Sheboygan County Teachers College in 1961 and Lakeland College in 1974.

On August 11, 1962, Jean married Ottomar Toepel in Sheboygan Falls. He passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 1990. For a short time, Jean was employed by Kohler Company. She was a teacher for many years and retired from the Sheboygan Area School District.

She was a long time member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, shopping, arts and crafts, cheering for the Green Bay Packers, and especially spending time with grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her two daughters, Kristin (Mark) Reimer of Green Bay, WI and Heidi (Greg) Klompenhouwer of Sheboygan; four grandchildren, Benjamin (Meredith) Reimer of Chicago, IL, Samuel Reimer, currently serving in the U.S. Navy in Diego Garcia, Garret Klompenhouwer of Buffalo Grove, IL and Megan Klompenhouwer of Sheboygan; brother-in-law, Conrad Toepel; close relative, Carl (Marilyn) Toepel; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends and caring neighbors.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Ingvald and Emma; husband, Ottomar; three brothers, Virgil, Wesley and John Samsal; three sisters, Viola Nash Brewer, Joyce Massey and June Martin; and a brother-in-law, Eugene Bloedorn.

A funeral service to celebrate Jean's life will be held on Tuesday, May, 12 at 10:00 am with Rev. Robert Steele officiating. Those who would like to live stream the funeral service may join the "Jean Toepel Funeral Service" Facebook group by visiting the Wenig Funeral Homes Facebook page. Kris, Heidi and family,

Our heartfelt condolences to you and your families during this sad time. I know that Jean will be very much missed especially during this weekend when all mothers are given the tribute they deserve. Telling stories and seeing family photos will help you remember all of the good times you had with your mom. I was fortunate to have spent some time with her and the last time was at Meredith's bridal shower. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
