La Verne Shimkoski Obituary

Shimkoski, La Verne

La Verne Shimkoski, age 85, of Sheboygan, died on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. She was born in Sheboygan on May 7, 1932, the daughter of the late Arno and Esther Roehrborn Trempe.

La Verne attended local schools and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1951. Following her graduation from Central High School she helped on family dairy farm for many years. She was united in marriage to Robert Shimkoski at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sheboygan on September 2, 1961. Robert preceded her in death on August 23, 2012.

She was a proud homemaker, caregiver to her parents and grandchildren. La Verne enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, cooking and spending time with her two favorite canine companions, "Daisy" and "Buddy". She was also an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan and she loved to be outdoors. La Verne was a quiet person, in fact, her high school classmates referred to as being "silent as the night".

Survivors include her son, Ryan Shimkoski, of Sheboygan; daughter, Brenda (Dennis) Doherty, of Plymouth; grandchildren, McKenna Shimkoski, Jordan and Colin Doherty; a sister, Helen Schaller, of Villa Park, IL and her brother, Norman (Josephine) Trempe, of Sheboygan. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. La Verne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Robert Trempe and brother-in-law, Tom Schaller.

A funeral service for La Verne will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th St., Sheboygan with Rev. Adam Scheblein officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in La Verne's name and may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. A heart felt thank you is extended to the St. Nicholas Hospice and the ICU for the compassion and care that was given to La Verne.
