Loran John Walsh

Sheboygan - Loran John Walsh, 51 of Monterey, California passed away Wednesday June 6, 2018. Loran was born on July 28, 1966 to Carl and Joan (Gall) Walsh. He graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School, Class of 1985. After high school he proudly served in the US Army and was promoted to Sgt-ES with the 287th Military Police Corps. While on active duty he was assigned to Berlin, Germany as an NCOIO in 1989 at Checkpoint Charlie. He became part of history in that part of the world being one of the last guards on duty. His other assignments were in Korea, Fort Ord California, and Honduras.

Loran worked as a security officer throughout his career in Atlanta Georgia, Glacier National Park Montana, Kohler Wisconsin, and his final destination at Monterey Peninsula College. With his leadership skills he obtained in the military he acquired the position of president of his union at the college. Loran also had a short career with the Sheboygan Transit as a city bus driver. Loran loved to travel; the Philippines was his most recent trip.

He is survived by his father Carl (Verna) Walsh of Plymouth; a sister Christine (Joel) VanDeVreugde of Plymouth, brother Scott (Tammy) Walsh of Sheboygan Falls, nieces, nephews, other family and friends as well as his faithful companion Fluffy his cat.

Loran was preceded in death by his mother Joan Walsh, older brother Steven Walsh, and his twin brother Warren Walsh.

Burial of the cremains with graveside military honors will take place at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Lima at a future date.

How did I miss this?!? There were 4 of us at Allied Checkpoint Charlie during the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Loran was my teammate and friend. My sincere condolences to the family.
