Verlare, Madalyn Joan
Madalyn (Mic) Joan Verlare, 84, of Sheboygan, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Sand Castle Beach Club in Ft Myers Beach, FL.
She was born on November 29, 1929, in Sheboygan, the daughter of the late Bill and Ann (DeSchmitt) Gabrielse, and was lovingly adopted into the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Katt) Ribbons family in infancy. On January 3,, 1952, she was united in marriage to Jacob (Jack) Verlare at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheboygan, of which she remained a member throughout her life.
Mic sang in her church choir, and sang solo's and duets. She belonged to a weekly prayer group and "CBI" ( Cross Roads Bible Institute prison ministries for inmates). Mic loved to travel, spending winters in Florida, visiting the Holy Land, and knitting afghans for her children and grandchildren.
Mic was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Memorial Hospital, Morningside Health Center, Pine Haven Christian Communities, Heritage Nursing Home, and the Sheboygan Retirement Home. Mic also raised a wonderful family of four children, and farmed poultry with her husband on the Verlare Turkey Ranch. She will be fondly remembered as one who loved the Lord Jesus with all of her heart and desired that all would be saved. Mic was a highly enthusiastic, gregarious and gracious individual who enjoyed Dutch baking, singing, traveling, reading, and interior decorating. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who knew her.
Those Mic leaves behind to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 62 years, Jack; four children, Jacob (Jay) (Denise) of Sheboygan; Michael (Mike) of Denver; Martha (Tom) Bahr of Sheboygan; and James (Jim) (Tamela) of Colorado Springs; nine grandchildren, Kim, Alison, Samantha, Jordan, Andrea, Garrison, Jacob, Sierra and Amberly; two sisters, Louise Van Kuiken of Chicago; and Betty Kalk of Sheboygan; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to both sets of her parents, Mic was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion (Ribbons) Ippel, and Sally (Gabrielse) Tuinstra; and five brothers, Bill, Leonard, Larry, Marvin and Matt Gabrielse.
A Celebration of the life of Mic will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the First Christian Reformed Church, 428 Geele Ave, in Sheboygan. A lunch will follow the service. Rev. Larry Meyer will officiate. Mic will be laid to rest at the Green Lawn Memorial Park.
The Verlare family will greet relatives and friends at noon until the service.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name for 1st Christian Reformed Church, Sheboygan Christian School, and Pine Haven Christian Home.
