Stella Tiboris Obituary

Stella (Menas) Tiboris

Stella (Menas) Tiboris, 89, of Sheboygan died Saturday, Sept. 22 at Terrace Estates, where she had been residing with her husband, Ernest, since 2007. She was born April 11, 1923 in Waukegan, IL, the daughter of the late Michael and Demetra Menas. She graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1941. On Nov. 10, 1946 she married Dr. Ernest Tiboris, of Sheboygan, at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, where they remained lifelong members.

Stella was the third daughter in a family of eight children, who were in constant contact with each other throughout their lives. Their closeness was shared by their children, as well, with the many cousins enjoying time with each other at all the family events and celebrations that followed in their growing-up years. She participated in her church activities, selling tickets at the Greek Picnic and supporting the Philoptochos' bake sales and events. She was very proud of being part of Sheboygan's Greek community.

Surviving Stella are her loving husband of 66 years, Ernest; two sons, Peter (Eilana) of Montclair, N.J., and Gus (Linda)of Sheboygan; five grandchildren, E. Peter Tiboris and Stephanie Tiboris (fiancé Jon Moratto), all of New York City; Michael (Melanie) Tiboris of San Diego; Deno Tiboris (fiancé Mary Ballard) of Washington, D.C.; and Kallie Tiboris, of Madison, WI; her brother, Deno (Carol) Menas of Fond du Lac.; a sister-in-law, Pat Menas, also of Fond du Lac, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two infant children, Michael E. and Nicholas; her brothers George Menas and Anton (Tony) Menas; her sisters, Marion Frankos, Peggy Ladas, Diana James, and Emily (Don) Wensauer.

Stella adored her grandchildren, enjoyed Pete and Stephie's visits each summer and indulging all five grandchildren with attention, little gifts in the mail, and teaching them Greek words and traditions. When they were little, they made up a silly song called "YiaYia the Bee" to celebrate how their grandmother was always keeping busy with those she loved. She enjoyed being social, and served for years on her high school reunion committee. Her dining room table was often set to welcome any guests who would stop to visit.

Services will be Saturday, September 29, 2012 at noon at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Sheboygan. The Rev. Fr. Peter Papademetriou and Fr. Michael Stearns will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be directed to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church.

The Tiboris Family would like to thank the staff at Terrace Estates for their sincere and kind attention, to the doctors who served her over the years, Heartland Hospice staff for their advice and care, and all those who have visited Stella as her health declined, including Fr. Peter, brother Deno and Carol, and friend Polly Vreeke.

Gus & Peter, Sadden by the passing of your mother. My mother often mentioned how helpful Stella was as she would help her shop and get around Sheboygan when my mom first came to the USA. God bless as our prayers are with your family.
