Gary Albert Bowlby, 78, of Greensburg, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022 at his residence.
Born March 9, 1944 in Greensburg, he was the son of Edwin Byrl Bowlby and Sarah Ellen (Hunter) Bowlby. He married Patricia Lynn (Collins) Bowlby on July 12, 1980, and she survives.
Other survivors include a son Damon A. Bowlby of Florida, and a daughter Alisan J. Moder (husband Tracy) of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stillborn infant sister Rita Bowlby, and daughter-in-law Becki Bowlby.
Mr. Bowlby was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Sand Creek High School in 1962. He had been a factory worker at Knauf Fiber Glass for 18 years, retiring in 2005. He had previously been a truck driver for Ashcraft/Baylor Trucking for 9 years and had also worked with his cousin Charlie Bowlby Oil Co. for 15 years.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Decatur County, a member of American Legion Post#70 and the Eagles Lodge of Shelbyville. He was a US Army veteran, serving in Panama for several years.
Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing, woodworking, and dearly loved his cats.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Cliff Bunch officiating. Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday morning from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Memorial Committee.
