Melvin Glenn Gordy, 83, of Shelbyville passed away peacefully at his home in his sleep on Friday, April 7, 2023.
He was born September 12, 1939 in Worthville, KY to Robert Lee Gordy and Elizabeth Reynolds.
Melvin was employed at Brazeway before retiring after 28 years of service. He also served as a Shelbyville Auxiliary Police Officer in the 1960's.
Melvin was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Indiana. He was an avid euchre player. He was HUGE Kentucky Wildcats and Cincinnati Reds Fans. Loved NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed his nightly ice cream. Most of all Melvin was a very loving Father and enjoyed being with his Family.
He is survived by his Sons, Gary (wife, Freda) Walters of North Carolina, David (wife, Lanna) Gordy of Waldron, and Billy Gordy of Alabama, his daughters, Melissa Gordy of Alabama, Tammie Newkirk, and Christy (wife, Brenda) Gordy all of Indianapolis, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, his sister, Alene G Turner of Kentucky, and his brother, Robert Gordy of North Carolina.
Best Friends Allen Rodgers and Jack Bassett of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.
A Celebration of Life with dinner will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #766 in Shelbyville, Indiana. Melvin was a member there for over 38 years.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Nick Coulston officiating.

Thank you for reaching out and letting me know about Melvin.I will miss our funny chats on the phone and always our good times when he came to visit Ralph and I.Just sorry I didn't live closer and could see more of him.We will meet again someday.God bless and be with you all in this time of sorrow.

You were my most loved Uncle.. Tears can not express the utter pain from from you leaving. You we kind, gentle,.and had so much patience for me. You taught b me how to swim and always there for important event, like my wedding. I love you in heaven more you. You will always be in my he heart.
