Otis A. "Sonny" Gahimer, 81, of Manilla passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Willows of Shelbyville.
Born on January 17, 1944 in Bluie Ridge, he was the son of Dorothy L. Gahimer. He married Esther D. (Eninger) Gahimer on December 28, 1962, and she preceded him in death on February 14, 2025.
Survivors include 3 sons- Marc Gahimer (Kathy) of St. Paul, Scott Gahimer (Cindy) of Shelbyville, Jeff Gahimer (Karen) of Greensburg; 4 grandchildren – Melissa Anthony of Indianapolis, Amanda Jones (Justin) of Florida, Jacob Gahimer (Courtney) of Michigan, Chance Olvey Gahimer of Westfield; 5 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter and 2 step grandchildren – Josh Mellentine & Amber Lett. He was preceded in death by his mother and his spouse Esther.
Sonny had lived in this area his entire lifetime and graduated from Waldron High School in 1962. He was a member of Crossroads
Community Church and worked for Federal Mogul factory of Greensburg for 40 years and after he retired from there, he worked at O'neal Steel for 6 years.
He enjoyed cutting firewood, gardening, fishing, and in the spring he made "Sonny's Maple Syrup" for several years.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm, Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Crossroads Community Church, 475 Progress Parkway, Shelbyville with Pastor Andy Lee officiating. Burial will be in Moscow Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday morning from 11:00 am until the time of the service, at the church.
Memorial contributions can be made to Rush County Animal Shelter or National Kidney Foundation, in care of the funeral home.
