CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Mr. Charles Solomon Bailey, 86, passed away Friday, April 10, 2009, at the Hubbard Hospice House.
He was a retired district manager for Western & Southern Life Insurance of Charleston. He was a graduate of Chesapeake High School in Chesapeake, Ohio, a resident of Charleston for 45 years and was of the Methodist faith. Charles was a World War II, Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific, Solomon Islands. He was a member of the Greenbrier Lions Club, lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and was a founding member of the CBS Travelers Clogging Team. Charles enjoyed square dancing for more than 50 years and summer vacations with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelma Ferguson Bailey; parents, Charles Lewis and Sarah Toliver Bailey; and sisters, Zenobia Buchanan, Arline Bailey, Carrie Flanigan, Frances Lawrence, Florence Vaughn and Elsie Henson.
He is survived by his sons, Dr. Stephen Bailey and his wife, Darlene, of Shelby, N.C., and Richard Bailey and his wife, Chrystal, of Greenville, S.C.; daughter, Deborah and her husband, Dr. Alan Rada, of Charleston; grandchildren, Tracey Bailey of Indianapolis, Ind., Kathryn Bailey and fiancé, Mike Runy, of Raleigh, N.C., Scott Bailey of Charlottesville, Va., Samuel and Johnathan Bailey of Greenville, Jennifer Rada of New York, N.Y., Alexander Rada of Charleston and Kelley Rada of Greenville; and one great-grandchild, Joseph Anderson of Indianapolis.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Home, St. Fran-ces Hospital and the Hubbard Hospice House, all in the Charleston area.

Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service, at the funeral home.
