Frankie Plager Obituary

FRANKIE PLAGER
Frankie Lee (Bird) Plager was born on July 3, 1931, in Grover, North Carolina, the fifth daughter of Cora and Benjamin Franklin Bird. After a brief illness, she died peacefully in Bloomington, Indiana, Feb. 23, 2015, at age 83.
Frankie graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and married Sheldon Jay Plager in 1951. They raised 3 children while living in Gainesville, Florida, until 1963, then Urbana, Illinois, until 1977, and finally in Bloomington, Indiana. In 1980, after her divorce, Frankie was a Medical Social Worker at the Bloomington Hospital. Frankie greatly appreciated and supported the arts, attending plays, musical performances, and most especially attending Indiana Hoosier basketball games. She loved playing bridge with several groups. Her great sense of humor served her well, and she knew not to take herself too seriously. Her companionship will be greatly missed.
She is pre-deceased by her parents Cora and Benjamin Bird; her sisters, Katherine Bird, Elizabeth Throop and Marjorie Ferguson. Frankie is survived by her 3 children, Anna Plager (Chris Nye) of Fairbanks, Alaska, David Plager (Martha Helveston) of Indianapolis, Indiana and Daniel Plager (Pam Mullins) of Tampa, Florida; and two grandchildren from each of her children, respectively, Ben and Amy Nye, Henry and Charles Plager, Samantha and Max Plager. Locally, she is survived by her sister Lenora Morris of Kings Mountain; nephew, Stephen Throop of Grover; niece Cynthia Throop Glidden (Scott) of Grover; and great niece Angharad Glidden Torres (Ben) of Kings Mountain. A ceremony will be held later in Grover, NC, where her ashes will be laid to rest.
