Gladys Crow Obituary

GLADYS CROW

COLUMBUS-Gladys Elizabeth Moore Crow of Columbus, N.C., departed her earthly life and entered into her Heavenly Home early Thursday morning, Nov. 5, 2015.

Gladys was born in Cleveland County, N.C., and grew up in Cleveland and Rutherford Counties. She graduated from Sunshine High School, Bostic. During her life she worked at several jobs outside the home, but she considered her greatest roles in life as wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was an avid learner and always interested in mastering the latest cooking and baking techniques. She loved baking cakes and pies and frequently gave them as gifts to friends and family. She also loved gardening, and enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. She was "Mama" or "Grandma" to so many who crossed paths with her and a loving and faithful friend to all persons she met. Her memory will live on through those who were fortunate enough to have met her just once.

She is survived by her loving husband of forty-nine years, Buford Eli Crow, and three daughters, Joyce Murray Jolly of Hendersonville, Susan Murray Greene and husband, Ronnie of Gowensville, S.C., and Amanda Crow Stafflebach and husband Jack of Columbus. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Deborah Jolly Holcomb and husband Christopher, Audrey Greene Bagwell, Jamie Greene, Nikki Greene Cole and husband, Jason, Kelsey Stafflebach, Connor Staffelbach and Noah Staffelbach. Additionally, she is survived by four great-grandchildren, Alexis Greene, Brett Bagwell, Stark Oder and Laila Cole; two sisters, Ina Moore Blanton of Kings Mountain, and Dorothy Moore Murray of Bostic, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Zay and Sallie Hamrick Moore and a sister, Madeline Moore Calhoun.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church.

Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m., at the church, conducted by the Rev. Brent Frady.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Henderson County Hunger Coalition, PO BOX 6151, Hendersonville, NC 28793-6151.

I enjoyed Gladys as my Sunday School teacher and forgot to sign when writing the previous message on Nov.9th.

So sorry for your loss. May the God of all comfort take hold of your right hand and fortify you and help you at this time of great sorrow. Isa. 41:10 LE

To Gladys' family: I remember Gladys particularly as my Sunday School teacher when I was around seven or eight. She was a wonderful teacher. I remember when she and Mother taught Bible School together and she would come to our house to help prep the arts and crafts that we were to make.

More recently I remember her as the older sister of my sister-in-law Dorothy, and the beloved Aunt Glat of our shared nieces and nephews. She was a kind, sweet, caring person whose absence will be greatly missed. My heart-felt condolences to you all. Hi Joyce, it has been a long time!

To the family of Gladys.

I haven't seen her in years, but DO remember what a SPECIAL person she was. We lived next door for many years. She and my brother Jimmy Murray shared the same birthday. Every year, we would ALL get together and make "homemade ice cream" to celebrate their birthdays. Her sister, Dorothy, MY sister in law, told me the first of the week, that she was not doing well.
I have just read of her passing on the PC. I am SO sorry for your loss. I know she will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
