He was my teacher at West Charlotte and was one of the coolest teachers there was! He introduced me to my best friend buying a Ramadan when we were in after school detention and he was a joy and he helped me through the most tough time of my senior year. He will be missed but never forgotten condolences to the family.

My sincere condolences to Kelly, Claude and Meg.
I haven't been able to get Scott off my mind since I heard the news last Wednesday. How can I be so rattled by the loss of someone I haven't seen in so many years? Kelly and Mike have kept me updated on the latest news so I was aware of the plans for the beauty salon and the health issues. But I had a profound visceral reaction when I saw the news which was posted by a fellow musician.
It has shaken loose some old memories, all the shows and times we spent at the house on Shenandoah. I remember stopping by on my way to Cafe Eugene, coming into Charlotte to have dinner for prom. We were all dressed up and Meg came out with a basket of brass bells and offered me one to commemorate the big event. You and Scott were such a wonderful part of my life and feel this loss more than I expected. A testament to the kindness you both showed me. We all know that Scott was special. Those who knew him wanted to be in the presence of the immortal light he held. I am glad I got to experience it too. I am thinking of you all and hoping for your peace. Much Love, Chauna

On behalf of the Absher family; Tommy, Rob, Heather, Auburn and Hugh, we send condolences and love to Meg, Kelly and Eric on the passing of Scott...a special man, husband, brother and Scruggs cousin whose fond memory will always be with us. Even though it has been several years it seems like yesterday that Marianne and I ran into Scott at the Metrolina FM one Sunday afternoon and had a blast talking antiques and old collectibles, and catching up on respective family news. Please know that we will never forget and will always cherish the love shown us by your family at Marianne's passing almost 2 1/2 years ago. We love you all and we pray for God's blessings of healing and comfort.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy and condolences to Meg, Kelly, Claude, and the Scruggs family. Through our mutual friend, Mike Arrowood, I met Scott, his brothers, and Meg when I was a student at UNCC in the early 1980s, and I have very fond memories of him. I saw Scott play in Radio Reach and The Streets, and I was always impressed with his talent. Scott was a man of great insight, and I am very fortunate to have known him.

I was so very shocked and saddened to hear the news of Mr. Scruggs passing. He made a true impact on mine and AJ's life during our time at TJCA. He brought so much light to the world. I will cherish his friendly and calm nature. He will be truly missed by all. I always looked forward to seeing Scott and Meg in Ingles when I would return back home to visit. Sending love and prayers to Mrs. Masterman and Scott's family. He was a good one!

Scott was a great poet and singer. I had the honor of having him proofread a couple of my books I wrote back in the early '90s. I have fond memories of him and I discussing music as he was very knowledgeable. He will be greatly missed.

Dearest Meg:
Our hearts are so heavy over the the loss of Scott. He will be remembered always as a very dear friend, a loving husband to you, and as a legendary teacher at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy. What you and Scott did for so many young adults for 20 years in Henrietta can never be forgotten. We know that Scott has stored up his treasure in heaven, as every mind that he inspired in his teaching career is a glimmering treasure awaiting him. We will always love and honor our dear friend, Harry Scott Scruggs.
Love Always! Joe, Georgia, Joseph, Nicholas, Annemarie, Michael, Regina, Stephen , and Christina Maimone

Scott was always the essence of “cool” in high school and was the same Scott when I learned he would teach my children at TJCA. Always connecting with friends and students, he had a calm spirit, a quick wit and a love of Rock. Meg was the perfect one for him. I am so heartbroken to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you,

We are so very saddened to hear of Scott's passing. High school friends, fun trips in French Club and listening to 'Yes', he was the epitome of cool; and thankful for his teaching our kids at TJCA. An incredible person: a light has gone out. Our deepest condolences to Meg and his bros.

Dearest Meg and friends,
I am so sorry for your loss. I don't have words that do justice for Scott's memory. It's been nearly 40 years since we were close, but Scott had the kind of personality that seemed immortally youthful. I never expected this. He was a talented musician, deep thinking intellectual, friend, and a man with an inscrutable smile. I know he has made a positive difference in many many lives, and I am fortunate to have known him and danced to his music.
Rest among the stars, Scott. Meg, I hope that soon you'll be able to remember him with smiles instead of tears.
Love,
Karen Hambright

Albert & Donna Petty extend deepest sympathy to the family of Scott Scruggs. Both of our children graduated from TJCA and had the privilege of being taught by Mr. Scruggs. Sarah Petty Crank (now age 33) remembers how Mr. Scruggs treated everyone in the class with respect and tried to make his students feel better about themselves. Richard Albert Petty (now age 28) enjoyed 9th grade English in Scott’s class. Richard also enjoyed having Scott’s brother, Kelly, as one of his teachers. Albert & Donna trusted Mr. Scruggs and his wife enough to allow Richard to travel with them and classmates to China. Richard will always remember that trip. The Scruggs family are in our prayers.

I am at a loss for words. Scott was a true friend to me all those years ago when we were going to conquer the world. We did conquer the world, just not in the way we thought. Scott, Ed Moon and I lived together in a tiny house in Charlotte, but we had some fine musicians jam in the living room. We had lots of fun being rock stars. I ended up moving to Athens, Georgia but I’ll always remember my good friend Scott. Blessings upon blessings upon blessings to Scott and his family.

I couldn't decide what to say, but I heard your voice say "Just start writing and don't stop"- words I first heard in middle school and have heard countless times in my head since. You gave a us a voice. You made us feel special, safe, and heard. Today I will read a spooky story in your memory.
With so much love,

The best friend anyone could hope to have in their lifetime. Sharing the stage with you in the Streets days and creating music with you over the last 20 plus years has been the greatest honor of my life!
Thank you for believing in me when no one else did. To say you will be missed is an understatement. I love you brother! May God speed and welcome you into his kingdom.

May God be with you Scott and the Angels near. You made such an impact to our family and little Ivy. We were only neighbors for what seems such a short period of time, but we were so blessed to have you in our lives. Angel and Perry Buroughs.
