Joel McKinney Obituary
Calabash, NC - Joel Wayne McKinney, 74, of Calabash, NC passed away unexpectedly at home Friday June 25, 2021.
He was born to his parents, James and Lillie McKinney on June 21, 1947 in Mooresboro, NC, who preceded him in death. He also was preceded by a brother, Jerry McKinney and a niece, Pam McKinney Harmon.
Joel graduated from Shelby High School and was well known for his sports abilities in football and baseball. He then attended Gardner Webb University with a degree in business. He went back to school for Cosmetology at Cleveland County Community College and became an instructor of Cosmetology. He retired in 2013 and moved to Calabash, NC where he enjoyed the beach life and made many new friends.
Joel is survived by a son, Jay and two grandchildren, Zach and Victoria all of Greenville, SC, a brother, Buddy McKinney and wife Ruby, a nephew Scott McKinney and wife Donna, a nephew Bobby McKinney and wife Crystal, a great nephew Jerry Harmon and wife Shelley.
A Celebration of his Life will be held, Tuesday July 20, 2021, visitation at 10:00 am, with services to follow, at 11:00 am at Trinity Baptist Church at 7406 Trinity Church Rd. Mooresboro, NC 28114
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Trinity Baptist Church. Arrangements are in the care of Coastal Cremations, Carolina Shores, NC
