John Carpenter Obituary
EASLEY, SC – John David Carpenter, 56, of 104 Westchester Way, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Shelby, he was a son of Ben Carpenter and the late Alma Thrift Carpenter.
He graduated from Shelby High School, received his B.S. degree from N.C. State University, and later received his MBA from Jacksonville University. He was a project engineer for Jacobs Engineering & Consulting in Greenville.
He had numerous hobbies which included hunting, fishing, reading, camping, hiking, beekeeping, woodworking, blacksmithing and traveling.
John was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his father of Easley, are his wife, Myra Jacks Carpenter of the home; a daughter, Erin Carpenter of Easley; two sons, Jacob Carpenter (Joyce Underwood) of St. Robert, MO, and Ryan Carpenter (Jennifer) of San Mateo, FL; a sister, Gayla Bucher (Bill) of Salisbury; three grandchildren, Allen, John and Trilby Carpenter.
The family will be at the home.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mr. Carpenter will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Liberty Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be at Robinson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville SC 29615, or Mt. Airy Baptist Church, The Life Center, 210 Mt. Airy Church Road, Easley SC 29642.

Myra, I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. Over a decade of memories are flooding my head as I type this note. From the sound of his laughter (always something or someone to laugh at in the powerhouse) to the smells emulating from his mobile pop warner football locker (Van) and the sight of him crammed into your little blue Plymouth (hope you finely let him sell that thing) John will be missed.

I am so sorry to learn of John's passing. Like so many on here, we all remember fondly our early years at Luke, the fun we had and the growing up we did in those days. It is remarkable to recognize that our own children are now passing through those same years when we were all together, and to wonder if they realize how fleeting that time is.

John took me under his wing on a personal crisis I had about a year ago and kept me upbeat with his words of wisdom. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a super intelligent man! My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Myra, I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. Jennifer and I just this weekend were talking about our early days at the Luke mill (Parties at the lake, Thursday night cook outs,....) and wishing we would have stayed in touch with the many friends we had made.
