Theodore "Zoot" Roseboro

SHELBY-Theodore R. "Zoot" Roseboro, 55, of 525 Suttle Street, Shelby, departed this life on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Wendover Hospice in Shelby, surrounded by loving family after a challenging battle with a terminal illness.
Theodore is the son of the late Elijah H. Roseboro and Mrs. Marie Long Roseboro. He is also the grandson of the late Theodore R. Long, Essie Doggett Long, Flora Surratt Long, and the late Harriet Curry Roseboro and Harry Roseboro.
Theodore was preceded in death by his father Elijah Harry Roseboro; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
He is survived by his mother, Essie Marie Long Roseboro; sister, Marilyn Adams and husband John; brothers, the Rev. Lawrence and wife Priscilla, Donald, and Robert. Theodore is also survived by his best friend, Izeal Walls; two nephews, Jonathan Adams of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Preston Roseboro; a niece, Lauren Huskey and husband Marice; a host of distant relatives, including his aunt, Dessie Roseboro of Shelby; and extremely supportive family friends, Imogene Robinson and Antonio Perry.
Theodore graduated from Shelby High and Cleveland Community College, earning a certificate in automotive mechanics. He also served successfully in the U.S. Army as a cannon crewman (tank ammunition loader) at 1st Bn. 22nd Field Artillery, 1st Armored Division Old Ironsides. After leaving the armed service, Theodore was employed at various jobs. He previously worked at Freightliner Gastonia and most recently as a successful concrete finisher at Concrete Specialty Contractors in Shelby. He took great pleasure in acknowledging his participation in helping constructing Ingles grocery stores across the N.C. region, as well as having had a demonstrative role in helping apply the finishing concrete touches at the Pebble Creek Subdivision. Theodore was a member of the American Legion.
Theodore loved life in general. He worked hard, loved and played hard. He loved family especially Mama, endured hardships and enjoyed small, but meaningful life occasions as real men do with friends and family. Most who truly knew him regarded him as an affable fellow who would do what he could to help those closest to him in need of camaraderie and just passing the breeze.
