Dolores Tyler Obituary

Dolores (Dee) May Tyler (Porter) passed peacefully into the arms of our Savior on December 2, 2025.

Dolores "Dee" Tyler was born November 16, 1943, at Paulina Stearns Hospital in Ludington, Michigan, to Alice and Lauren Porter. The youngest of four daughters, she grew up in Buttersville in the home built by her grandparents. Her childhood was filled with barefoot adventures with her best friend Diana, walking to Cooper's Store for a shared pop, baking with her mother, playing with her sisters, riding the neighbor's horse, and serving tea for Mrs. Rohn's and Mrs. Caldwell's bridge clubs. She loved tobogganing, skating on Pere Marquette Lake, and spending cherished days on Lake Michigan as first mate to her dad, Edwin.

Dee attended Ludington Public Schools, beginning in the one-room Phillips School, and graduated from Ludington High School before attending Lansing Community College. After high school, she met the love of her life, Gordon Tyler, while working at Gibbs Restaurant. They married on November 26, 1965, sharing 42 devoted years until Gordon's passing in 2008. After their son Greg was born, they moved to Woodland, Michigan, where Dee became active in Woodland UMC-teaching Sunday School, leading Bible studies, serving the UMC Women's Group, and holding numerous church leadership roles. She became a certified Lay Servant, leading worship and sharing God's love.

During the 1980s, she worked for NuVision as an Ophthalmic Technician and office manager. She later served the State of Michigan in the Department of Commerce, DNR Region 3 Headquarters, and retired from the DEQ Executive Division.

In retirement, Dee and Gordon traveled throughout Michigan, the U.S., Hawaii, and England, and enjoyed attending Detroit Tigers games. She loved knitting, crocheting, gardening, and caring for her flowers.

Dee is preceded in death by her husband; parents Alice and Edwin Yeskey and Lauren and Minnie Porter; sister Sandra and brother-in-law Bud Durham; and sister Shirley Morton.

She is survived by her sister Marie (Elwyn) Morton, brother-in-law Lemoyne Morton, and sister-in-law Cheri Klophenstien; children Leasa Loseth, Greg (Anna) Tyler, Andrew (Amy) Tyler, and Erin (Dan) Baker; grandchildren Joe Loseth, Ben (Vanessa) Loseth, Abby (Alex) Morehead, Stacey (Javon) Townsend, Lizzy (Javier) Tyler, David Tyler, Josh Tyler, and Tyler Johnson; great-grandchildren Bryson, Leo, Janie, Millie, Valerie, Elijah, Ariez, Azrael, Allura, Natalie, Jude, Amaya, and Haiden. Along with many nieces and nephews.

Her life was rich with faith, family, and love. Her smile and gentle spirit will be deeply missed.

Yesterday

There is a saying and in Woodland and it is really true, it takes a village. Greg and I were best friends growing up and I spent almost as much time at his house as my own and Dee was a second Mom. She will be missed.
