I have always loved the Deater -Lavin family since becoming neighbors and friends many years ago. Mr. Deater making sure I was ok opening the Quick Stop in the wee hours and Terry and Jimmy there for my mom if needed. Patti I know Terry was very special to you I'm sure that's why your daughter was named after him. My heart felt prayers to all of you.

Jim, I am so, so sorry to hear about the passing of your brother Terry and I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you. You probably don't know who I am, but you would recognize me if you saw me. I'm from Illinois and I've been buying fishing licenses and equipment and worms from you and Terry for 40+ years. I didn't know you and Terry well enough to call you friends, but I would like to think that we would have been friends if I had known you better. I didn't know anything about Terry's family except for you so, please accept my deepest sympathies. Hoping to see you in the Spring.

Very Sincerely,

We are so very sorry for your loss. I know that it doesn't make it hurt any less, but please know that you're always loved. Jim, ever since you first learned how to professionally answer a phone, you have been dear to our hearts. You'll always be. If we can help, just reach out. Until then, we will be lifting you all up in prayer. May God's Grace and Mercy bring Peace and Comfort to you all, now and in the days to come.

Terry has always been a great influence in my life. He gave me my first job out of high school at Hesperia Sport Shop which I will be forever grateful for. His passing has certainly hit this community hard and it will never be the same without him. Rest easy knowing you are loved and missed by so many. You are my family.

We were shocked and sad of the news of Terry's passing. Over 50 years ago when our families became one we began this journey. We have had many blessed years together and some tragedies as loved ones have left this earth. Terry has been a strong part of the history of Hesperia and of the Anderson, Deater Family for all of those years.
I've always enjoyed coming into the Sports Shop to pick up a few things and to get the latest scoop on what was happening with fishing and hunting in the area or in Michigan. Terry and Jim had all the updates and would pass it along to us. Terry would always have that little smile when he would see me as if to say what kind of mischief is the Anderson Boys into now. I appreciate the fact that both boys began to take my grandson Andy under their wings to get him hooked on the outdoors of hunting and fishing as I am sure they did with all the youth that entered the Sports Shop. Thank you for sharing Terry with all of us people in West Michigan. Hesperia is a better place because of him.
When it is my time time to leave this Earth and God calls me home, I pray that it is outdoors in nature doing something I enjoyed just like Terry did. We will miss him and we are are praying for all of you during this time.

I am going to miss Terry and the conversations we would have over the counter at the Sportshop. The last conversation we had was about how much he enjoyed his property. Although we never actually did anything together, the conversations over the last 28 years add up, I will miss him. His passing is another reminder that we are all just passing through. Enjoy your journey and hug tight those that you love!

I've known you boys from the very start, it truly amazed me how you two put things together and built that sport shop from that tiny little bait shop many years ago, when I heard the news I was stunned and could not imagine that it was possibly true, no one can imagine the lost you and the rest of the family is experiencing at this time, I can only say that I will miss him very much

I got to know Terry as a teenager cutting my teeth on steelhead. He always had what was needed and a good report. As my addiction grew a friendship was formed. I always looked forward to seeing him at the shop, where I was greeted with a “Hey Fred” and a smile. Kinda like “Cheers”. After moving to Traverse City my visits became infrequent but I was always greeted like a long lost friend. It was special to me but I’ve come to understand that he treated everyone that way. In today’s world of online shopping and faceless clerks at big box stores Terry was different... When he told you good luck when you were leaving, he truly meant it and was always interested in seeing your harvest. He fueled my passion for the hunting and fishing lifestyle. You were special man.... “Steelhead Fred”

Condolences to Terry's friends and family. I hope you are able to fine peace and strength. Terry was my friend for many years, and for a short time, my boss. He and Jim gave me a job to help me during a career change. He was always honest and fair and had a great sense of humor. I will miss his smile and the way he greeted me when I came into the Sport Shop, "MISTER Gerard!" I will think of Terry during my time hunting and fishing as a way to keep his memory alive.
