Dorothy K. Richardson

Shreveport, LA - A celebration of the life of Dorothy Kelly Richardson will be held in Couch Chapel at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013, with Dr. Pat Day officiating and Dr. Carl Rhoads assisting. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday, in the Chapel Parlor of First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Richardson died on Sunday, November 10, 2013. She was born in Benton, LA, on March 16, 1921 and is descended from pioneer families of Bossier Parish. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irma Stinson Kelly and Beverly Augton Kelly; and by her husband, Thomas Winship Richardson.

She lived a long and rewarding life as she was interested in many diverse activities. She graduated from C.E. Byrd High School and attended Centenary College where she became a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She graduated from LSU-Baton Rouge with a B.A. degree in education. There she was selected as a Beauty in the Gumbo. She was active in theater in both Shreveport and Baton Rouge, and played Emily at the Shreveport Little Theatre in John Wray Young's production of "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder. Her husband was in the U. S. Navy and Naval Reserves for many years and she was with him in many locations where he was stationed, including New York City and Cambridge, MA during World War II and Alaska during the Korean War.

She and her husband owned a Real Estate Business for over 30 years. After his death she retired and again became interested in the arts. She was a member of the Shreveport Opera, Shreveport Little Theater, Shreveport Symphony, Centenary College Women's Endowment Quorum, The Demoiselle Club, The Cotillion Club and The Shreveport Chapter of the Colonial Dames of America, The National Council of the Metropolitan Opera of New York, The Halcyon Society, and was a Sustaining Member of the Shreveport-Bossier Junior League. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Thomas Winship Richardson Jr. and his wife, Edith Jackson; three adored granddaughters, Rachel J. Richardson, Kelly J. Richardson and Elizabeth J. Richardson; two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Cecilia Roderick, a dear cousin, Mary Alice Stinson Gibner and her family. She leaves many devoted friends and caretakers, among them, Helen Dodd, Lillie Howard and the members of Rosemary Sneed's Caretaking Group. The family appreciates the kindness and skill of her doctors including Dr. Ryan Bicknell, Dr. Richard Sipes, Dr. Iqbal Singh and Dr. Sreedhara Alla.

Pallbearers will be The Honorable Ford Stinson, Jr., Alan L. Brittain, Lewis S. Robinson, Randolph W. Robinson, John David Crow and Hugh C. Ilgenfritz, III.

Honorary pallbearers will be O. Delton Harrison, Jr., Sanders Fowler, III and Steven S. Robinson.

The family requests that any memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church or Centenary College.
